Pokemon Black and White spotlight: Victini

This week we dedicate a whole post to Victini, the Victory Pokemon. Like many event-only Pokemon before him, his adorable looks belie a formidable power. With awesome stats and an impressive movepool, including a signature move only he can learn that's the most powerful Fire-type move in existence, Victini is definitely worthy of his legendary status. Let's take a closer look.

Talk about a well-rounded Pokemon stats-wise. With even 100s in all base stats, how you train Victini is totally up to you. He has two signature moves, Ball of Flame and V-Generate, both of which are powerful Fire-type moves. Ball of Flame is a 100 power, 100% accuracy Fire-type special attack that has a 30% chance of burning the target. Sounds pretty good, right? Well, V-Generate is the strongest Fire-type move of all time to date, with a physical attack base power of 180 and a 95% accuracy, which is automatically raised thanks to Victini's Victory Star ability, which boosts the accuracy of Victini and all Pokemon in your party. The only downside to V-Generate is that it lowers Victini's defense, special defense and speed one stage, and also causes a small amount of collateral damage to any Pokemon on either side of Victini in double or triple battle, but it's a small price to pay for such a powerful move.

There's a catch though – as of this point it isn't currently possibly to obtain a Victini that knows or can learn the move V-Generate. How can a Pokemon not be capable of learning its own signature move? Well, Victini is an event-only Pokemon and the only event Victini available to date doesn't have it in its moveset, and it can't be learned through level-up, TM, move tutor, or via any in-game process. WTF! In other words, it seems that not only is Victini an event-only Pokemon, but V-Generate is also an event-only move (that happens to not be available yet, even though a Victini event was already distributed once via the Liberty Ticket Wi-Fi download). Ball of Flame on the other hand, you can teach the Liberty Ticket event Victini by visiting the Move Relearner in Fukiyose City. If you want to teach it to Victini right away, it'll be the only Fire-type move out of the two moves in the list (かえんだん).

Design-wise, I personally love Victini. He falls perfectly into the design of the other uber cute mirage legendaries like Mew, Celebi, Jirachi and Shaymin, yet still sets himself apart with a unique design. He's cute yet aggressive-looking, and ultra-Japanese with his V-for-victory hand pose and bento apple rabbit ear design.

To obtain Victini, at this point you must have imported Black or White and downloaded the Liberty Ticket item from the Wi-Fi distribution that occurred from September 18th to October 18th. Travel to Hiun City and board the boat in the dock area in the farthest southwest corner, which takes you to Liberty Island. Not much to do on the island but obtain Victini, who appears at level 15.
