And he thinks it could be as early as 2012…
Ally McBeal creator David E Kelley has told The Hollywood Reporter that he remains optimistic that viewers will see his version of Wonder Woman on TV, despite all the major US TV networks passing on the idea this time around.
“I think the likelihood is we’ll see it next year,” he reckons. “I’m being optimistic but I don’t think I’m being unrealistic.”
Kelley says that part of the reason why the networks have passed on the project for the moment is that the script was “rolled out very late in the game”. He intends to repitch the show to NBC in the near future now that a round of executive reshuffles at the network has settled down. Kelley feels that NBC would be a good home for the show, especially under incoming programming chief Robert Greenblatt.
“I like to think of it as a smart script and I know he responds to smart material,” says Kelley, explaining that the show would explore the title character like a “real complex woman and not just a superhero.” He also didn’t rule out the possibility of a move to cable. Hmm, the mind boggles what HBO would do with the franchise; you can see its execs getting all excited about the mere thought of what they could do with Wonder Woman’s lasoo.
