35 Awesome Movie Cosplay Costumes

Silent Bob

The Costume: Talking of double takes, is that you, Kev? Naw, it’s just our mate Neil dressed up as Silent Bob. What a likeness, though.

It’s been nine years in the making, apparently, and the jacket was the most expensive part.

Eye For Detail: Right down to the straggly hair and cigarette. Bang on.

Starship Captain

The Costume: Most expensive outfit here, this one was made for £550 and took a year to complete. Worth the money, though.

Player Raules says the best thing about the character is “what he stands for”. Photographs?

Eye For Detail: The collar, the arm band, the rank markings... Astonishing amount of detail put into this costume.

Willy Wonka

The Costume: Heeeeere’s Johnny! At least Mr Depp’s interpretation of the nutso chocolate factory owner Willy Wonka. The antique top hat alone cost £50.

Eye For Detail: Great shoes.

The Joker

The Costumes: Clarice and Lauren play different wardrobe change versions of Heath Ledger’s Joker.

Clarice’s cost £210 and took a week to complete. Lauren came in at less, despite having more layers, with a budget of £100.

Clarice likes the Joker because he’s a cross dresser.

Eye For Detail: Lauren has a yellow pencil. Wonder what she needs that for?

Ghost Rider

The Costume: No, it’s not Chucky from Rugrats . It’s Ghost Rider, as created by movie fan Jon.

Aside from the boots, the entire thing’s custom made - including, of course, that impressive flaming skull - and took between six and eight months to create.

Eye For Detail: That’s a hell of a shotgun.

Clone Trooper

The Costume: Mini-Trooper! Shop bought but still cool, though the little fella could look a bit happier about it. Maybe he knows the Jedi are after him, and good always prevails...

Eye For Detail: Did Troopers wear trainers under their armour?

Abe Sapien

The Costume: Ah, Nuala’s water-loving love interest Abe here. The entirely self-made costume took five days and cost fifty squids.

The latex mask was also a home project to make Blue Peter green with envy.

Eye For Detail: Just look at those gills.

Liz

The Costume: Here’s psychic, Hellboy-bedding gun-toter Liz.

The outfit was “easy to make”, especially considering Liz is the most contemporary of the HB characters. Like a kinetic version of Lara Croft.

Eye For Detail: That bob is something that would do Selma Blair proud.

Dr Manhattan

The Costume: Opting not to go for the, um, freer ‘day you were born’ look, Watchmen aficionado Paul keeps things slick as Manhattan.

He likes the fact that his character is “omnipotent”.

Eye For Detail: Handkerchief in the breast pocket finishes things off nicely.

Mrs Lovett and Sweeney Todd

The Costume: More Johnny Depp stylings, with the suitably-named Jack’s Sweeney Todd outfit costing £40 and four weeks of his life.

Moira’s Mrs Lovett totalled almost four times that at £200, and she says “it was a challenge finding the appropriate fabric”.

Eye For Detail: Jack’s blood-mopping flannel is a fun touch.
