30 Reasons Leipzig Might Kill Off E3 This Year

World of Warcraft: Wrath of The Lich King
We're hoping this'll be released later this year. BlizzCon 2008 isn't happening until October. If the merger shenanigans is sorted by Leipzig, there's a good chance that The Lich King will make an appearance.

Dragon Quest IX
Dragon Quest IX has been in development for the DS since 2006, and currently holds a non-specific 2008 release date. In February, Squenix president Yoichi Wada stated that the game was "almost complete", so we must be due an update very soon. The company is already pouring a lot of love onto Nintendo's consoles with Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles on Wiiware and numerous Final Fantasy remakes on the DS, so Leipzig would be a great time for new info on a more substantial original game.

Brutal Legend

Yet another casualty of the Activision Blizzard merger, Tim Schafer's Jack Black-starring, heavy metal comic fantasy got knocked out of the E3 schedule while the dust settled around the deal, according to its creator. But Schafer has also said that he hopes to show the game soon, and there's one very clear theory on what that could mean.

Red Dead Revolver 2
We know that a sequel to Rockstar's Wild West actioner is on the way and we know that it's scheduled for release some time this year. The game was absent from E3, but a teaser turned up during the Take-Two press conference, and that positively screams "Go to Leipzig!" to us.

Twisted Metal
We know this is coming for the PS3, and David Jaffe has been dancing around talking about it for a very long time. After a sparse Sony E3 conference - God Of War III notwithstanding - surely there are a few high profile PlayStation surprises left?

White Knight Chronicles

Another glaring omission from Sony's E3 conference, Level-5's PS3-exclusive White Knight Chronicles is scheduled for a Q4 release, at least in Japan, so there's a good chance we'll be seeing more of it soon. Coming from the developer responsible for Dragon Quest VIII and Rogue Galaxy, it would go along way to soothing the sting of Final Fantasy XIII's defection to the Xbox 360.

FIFA '09/Pro Evolution Soccer 2009
Both games are due out in autumn and Europe is the spiritual home of ball/boot interaction, so we'd be very surprised if we didn't see something of each franchise at Leipzig. Both franchises' previous iterations were debuted at Leipzig last year, so a precedent has been set.

Duke Nukem Forever
Please? Pretty please?

David Houghton
Long-time GR+ writer Dave has been gaming with immense dedication ever since he failed dismally at some '80s arcade racer on a childhood day at the seaside (due to being too small to reach the controls without help). These days he's an enigmatic blend of beard-stroking narrative discussion and hard-hitting Psycho Crushers.
