A sequel to Robert Zemeckis’ 1988 blend of live action and toon characters, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is one of those projects that often gets talked about, but never quite reaches the screen.
But now the man himself – that would be Zemeckis, not the rabbit – is chatting up the idea once more.
Talking to MTV, Zemeckis revealed that his love of all things digital is inspiring him to revisit the character. “I’ll tell you what is buzzing around in my head now that we have the ability — the digital tools, performance capture — I’m starting to think about ‘Roger Rabbit.”
He wouldn’t be drawn on any other specifics – probably because they don’t exist outside his noggin yet, but it’s certainly the most encouraging sign yet that he might just being us some fresh rabbit comedy.
Of course, the sequel has been mooted, rumoured and pondered for years, so this could just fall into that catch-all file once again, but we’d be interested to see what the director could do with his shiny digi-toys and a decent script.
