Sadly, money grubbing suits have recently begun ripping off honest cheaters with slimy pay-per-cheat systems and shameful product tie-ins. But beneath the slick interfaces of Xbox Live Marketplace lie layers of moldy codes hidden in games by the hacker cowboys of days long past. These sly nods to the elite gaming cadre are bizarre, hilarious, or even downright grotesque. In celebration of this longstanding tradition we present to you the finest cheats, glitches, and mods excavated from the ...
Skateboarding is fun. To see how fun, throw yourself down 16 stairs, and when you arrive at the bottom, absorb the brutal concrete smack that surges up through the bones of your feet to crush your ankles, knees and spine. If that doesn't sound pleasurable, then at least know Tony Hawk's Project 8's virtual reenactment is massively so. Score one for gaming versus the real world.

Someone call Activision and let 'em know that 720p means 1280x720, please. Games-Aktuell, a German gaming outlet, has discovered that Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk's Project 8 are not running at a 720p high-def resolution.

When the tests were run, CoD3 was shown to be running at 1040x620 pixels and THP8 at 1040x584 pixels. The pixel drop reflects a resolution drop of 30% and 34%, respectively. The resolution drop could be assumed to help keep framerates up, but THP8 reportedly has framerate problems. So what's up?

Activision Germany told Cynamite.de that they weren't aware of the problem and are looking into it. Lower resolution is not something that normally just happens by accident, but given the recent quality assurance problems with CoD3, these resolution problems may just be another woeful mistake. If intentional, why the resolution drop in THP8 when the 360 is clearly powerful enough to handle something like Gears of War just fine?

According to IGN, the PS3 version of Tony Hawk's Project 8 suffers from two key problems. First, as previously announced, the PS3 version lacks an online mode. However, more suprisingly, the PS3's Project 8 frequently grinds to halt. The game chugs and the framerate frequently drops to an unplayable 15 FPS.

To sum it up, IGN says "It's certainly disappointing that the PlayStation 3 is so far behind the Xbox 360 game. Framerate issues are apparent at every other turn, and the lack of online play really hurts. Project 8 is a worthy game to pick up, just preferably not on this system."
Remember when, after a thumb-bruising all-day session of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on PSone, you found yourself imagining what a skateboarding game would be like in the future? Well, going on our recent experience, Project 8 is pretty much that game.

It'll make you love your skateboard as much as your skater - listening to its wheels click-clack over every crack in the pavement and ring off every surface so perfectly, you'll want to coast and grind everything in the world ...
To seasoned Tony Hawk pros, single-player mode is akin to storytime in kindergarten. Hardcore fans play for the challenge and competition - finding the best lines to maximize combos and rack up insane point totals to best their rivals and impress any suitors that may inexplicably be watching. They're gonna drop a deuce in their baggy shorts when they get to play Project 8 on next-gen consoles.

Sure, the game features a livelier, more active story mode world and leaderboards for every goal to ...
Thursday 12 October 2006
New details on the multiplayer modes in Tony Hawk's Project 8 have emerged - and for series fans, they're pretty much what you'd expect, with one exception.

The two-player only Horse is back, along with eight-player games of Trick Attack, Combo Mambo, Score Challenge and Combo Challenge - asking you to be first to hit either a predetermined score or just rack up the biggest score during a timed session. Graffiti also makes a reappearance, in which trick areas are ...
With animation playing a bigger role in Tony Hawk's Project 8 than any previous title, developer Neversoft has been motion-capturing different stances from its featured skaters - as you can see in this session with Paul 'P-Rod' Rodriguez by grinding up to the Movies tab.

Obviously starry-eyed and bushy-haired at the chance to be in a Tony Hawk title, Rodriguez notes that the actual trick motions in previous skating titles were a little lacking. With Project 8 enabling you to take control of ...
Here are the three words that defined our hands-on time with Tony Hawk's Project 8: Nail the Trick. While Tony Hawk's American Wasteland was a quickie port for last year's Xbox 360 launch, THP8 already looks, feels and plays like the next-generation potential star it is - and a good part of that is due to this new control scheme.

Nail the Trick is a much-talked about new game goal and control mechanic for pulling off precision kickflips and board rotations in real time. It's simple: Ollie off ...
But Project 8 is not online for PlayStation 3. Only within the last three weeks has Neversoft received its PS3 beta kits, a black horizontal box about one foot wide by two feet long and two inches deep, with a slew of buttons and dials on its front deck. Neversoft is confident the PS3 version of the game will ship at launch in November, but it still hasn't received all of the software libraries and has no indication of how the online components will work on PS3, so it's not offering them.
The innovative Nail the Trick mode in Tony Hawk's Project 8 marks the skateboarding series' first real evolution, as this latest next-gen footage shows off nicely.

Nail the Trick gives you direct control over your skater's legs with the joypad sticks and enables you to invent your own flipping combos on the fly. Sound too complicated? It's not - just check out the new gameplay footage on the movies tab to see how straightforward Nail the Trick really is.

Tuesday 29 August 2006
The Tony Hawk series is returning to its trick-based roots this November with a new interface that allows players to control each of their skater's legs individually. While the familiar control system still exists in the game, Tony Hawk's Project 8 also features an inventive new Nail the Trick function - and we've had the chance to try it out on Xbox 360.

The mode can be accessed at any point during the game and is initiated by clicking both analogue sticks ...
One of the tasks in Tony Hawk's latest skate game Project 8 is to impress the locals in the virtual city the game is set in. This latest screenshot shows an novel way of doing this - kick flipping over their heads.

Impressing the locals is only one of the challenges you must undertake in order to turn your created amateur skater into one of the best in the world. Learning skills from pros and proving your worth to your peers is also necessary to develop your skating ...

The games I'll talk about are Gears of War, The World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions, Dead Rising, Call of Duty 3, NBA 2K7, WWE: Smackdown vs. Raw, and Tony Hawk's Project 8. But this is the next generation, and all the stops have been pulled on Tony Hawk's Project 8, the newest board-riding banquet from the Hawkman.

When Wii hits the shops at the end of the year, it'll play host to next-gen versions of both Tony Hawk's and Call of Duty, according to publisher Activision.
