The message looks to be an email which discusses something to do with a security system.

The website also contains in the bottom right corner GPS co-ordinates, when put in the locaction comes up with Sankt Peterburg aka Saint Petersburg, Russia."

Imagine this: you're playing one of Splinter Cell Conviction's many "choose your own torture" sequences, as described by Ubisoft's Jeffrey Dickstein. As you're slamming a terrorist's face into a urinal, you might ask yourself, "is this the new Degree deodorant I should buy?" (Seriously, these are his words.)

This is actually the pitch Ubisoft delivered at Microsoft Advertising's Gaming Upfront presentation in New York this evening. In-game advertising is rapidly growing, but has typically been relegated to sports and racing games. Splinter Cell Conviction breaks convention by being neither. Expect both static and video ads to appear throughout the environment -- including during the game's lengthy torture sequences. Perhaps they should take it one step further: Sam Fisher should grab a Coca-Cola bottle, smash it, and use the broken glass to kill a guy. Talk about refreshing!

GamingUnion.net writes, "Splinter Cell has long been an on-and-off multiplatform series. Originally debuting on the Xbox, the series later made its way to Sony and Nintendo's platforms as well. Splinter Cell: Conviction however is currently exclusive to the Xbox 360, a departure of where the series previously was heading.

Ubisoft have announced that Conviction will not be the last installment into the franchise, so naturally questions have been raised about whether future titles will also be Xbox 360 exclusive. We managed to catch up with Yannis Mallat, the CEO of Ubisoft's Toronto and Montreal studios, at the recent GameON: Finance conference to ask him his opinion on the matter."

Ubisoft has told fans that Splinter Cell: Conviction, recently delayed from this year to next year, "will be a better game in February than any time earlier".

Speaking to VideoGamer.com earlier this week following a screening of Assassin's Creed: Lineage, the short film produced by Ubisoft to coincide with the launch of Assassin's Creed 2, Ubisoft Montreal and Toronto chief Yannis Mallat, said Conviction's delay was about adding polish.

"The level of polish that we are achieving as we speak is definitely worth the wait. You know Ubisoft is committed to quality. We apply that to all our games. Splinter Cell is not excluded from that."

"What a night! Held at the excellent Oxford Street Darlinghurst venue (Sydney), the brilliantly presented Oxford Art Factory, which just oozes atmosphere, guests were part of the "Official Australian Launch of Assassin's Creed 2?, which will hit Australian shelves on November 19th and Nth America/Europe following on the 20th.

Not only was Assassin's Creed 2 on display for us, guests were given some actual hands-on time with two major upcoming Ubisoft games, plus more exclusive details and unseen items related to three of their major upcoming titles, Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction and John Cameron's Avatar: The Game.

Plus something else . . . and probably best of all, we had a fleeting snippet of ONE of the upcoming Assassin's Creed 2 – Movies."

"This is the second week in a row where Grand Theft Auto IV headlines the Blend Games Weekly Recap. This time, however, it's all about the new Ballad of Gay Tony DLC trailer and screenshots. The first week of September wasn't just about Gay Tony, though. Assassin's Creed 2 first gameplay-only trailer was released, Alienware announced a new TactX line that includes a keyboard, mouse and the ability to test this stuff out with a new concept store. And, of course there's the new adult-only SexBox game console that was recently announced for all your interactive pornographic needs."

"The last week of July and the first day of August has provided gamers with some darn good tidbits of gaming information that's well worth recapping. First off, Blend Games Rich Knight gives us a brief history of Mother, as the game is now 20 years old. We have some coverage on the drastic drop of production costs for the PS3, some new info on the Twilight game, news about a new Ghost Recon, The Darkness 2, and delays for Splinter Cell: Conviction, again. Also, be sure to check out the article about Konami being shamed with the depraved SAW game. These stories and more in this week's edition of the Blend Games' Weekly Recap."

"After teasing us with the carefully scripted Splinter Cell Conviction E3 demo -- for the umpteenth time -- lead designer Steve Masters commented on the game's current status as a "March quarter" release today at Ubisoft's "Holiday Preview" event (we'll be celebrating well into 2010, you know). Masters echoed CEO Yves Guillemot in saying, "really [the delay] was just a decision to allow us to polish up and really deliver the experience that the fans are looking for."

Ve3tro writes: "Ubisoft has just updated their blog with the following statment in regards to the Splinter Cell: Conviction delay.

"Splinter Cell Conviction is a very important game for us. We want to ensure it's a game that long-term fans and gamers new to the series equally enjoy when they play it. Previous Splinter Cell games have set the bar very high when it comes to quality and enjoyment, we are firmly focused on continuing this with Conviction.

After demonstrating the new vision for the game at E3 2009 we won many awards and got a lot of interest from fans and press alike. In order to live up to our own ambitions and your expectations, we strongly feel that giving our teams that extra time will allow us to present a game to you that will fulfill that potential. Due to this, we have decided to move the release date into Q1 2010. This extra time will ensure Splinter Cell Conviction becomes every bit the fantastic experience we want it to be"."

"Creative Director of Splinter Cell: Conviction, Maxime Beland, has revealed it'll be possible to complete the game in around 12 hours, in an exclusive interview in the latest issue of OXM.

"I want people to play my games and finish them," Beland told us as we were getting our first playtest of the game. "We're going to ship with difficulty levels, at least a normal mode and realistic mode - like we did on Rainbow Six Vegas."

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell novel gets back again with a new title , called " Conviction " which is the same title the next game is using . The author is David Michaels - pseudonym , the real name of the author is Grant Blackwood - who wrote the two previous novels " Checkmate and Fallout " which released in 2006 , 2007 . It's the first time the novel uses the title which the game uses , and it seems that the events will be as same as the game's events which will release in the same month . The strange thing is that the author will release another novel , called " Endgame " in November 24 , 2009 which also was listed in Amazon website , and it seems that it will be a " completion " of Conviction story and the end of the story of splinter cell which maybe also an indication for the end of the story of the game series . Nothing is confirmed about the Game's story , but just speculations .
Splinter Cell Conviction
Sam Fisher’s gone through some midlife crisis-sized changes over the past couple of years.

When it was first released in 2002, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell focused on the military operations of the fictitious government organization, Third Echelon. Since 2006's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, the story of the franchise has shifted from the overall mission objectives to the character of Sam Fisher himself.

During a one-on-one interview with Ubisoft producer Alexandre Parizeau during E3 2009, Joystiq asked why the franchise has shifted focus to the character of Sam. According to Parizeau the answer is simple, after dealing with so much trauma throughout the series, Ubisoft Montreal wanted players to see how Sam's methods have evolved, which led to shaping Conviction's dynamic and offensive stealth gameplay. "He's not going to be the same person when he reacts to situations as he was when he was working for Third Echelon. It's a completely different scenario," Parizeau told Joystiq.
Since first showing off the feature during Microsoft's Pre-E3 media briefing, Parizeau says some gamers fear the game will become too easy. "Have no fear at all," Parizeau told Joystiq during a one-on-one interview during E3 2009. "It's an added tool that lets you do the first step when storming a room or area or a situation.

During a private demonstration at E3 2009 this evening, Splinter Cell Conviction associate producer Jean-Francois Poirer confirmed to Primotech that the newest entry in the series will have a multiplayer component. Poirer was not able to confirm any further details on what that might entail.

Multiplayer in Splinter Cell debuted with the second game, Pandora Tomorrow, and continued through the two following titles, Chaos Theory and Double Agent. Because Ubisoft refers to Conviction as a "redefinition of the series," and given the extended and troubled development of the title, the inclusion of multiplayer was not a certainty.

If there's one definitive way to push publishers, developers and public relations personnel off balance, it's broaching the subject of console exclusivity. Begin the line of inquiry and you're sure to get darting eyes, an elongated "Wellllll ..." and an answer that crumples in on itself as soon as it's spoken. Perhaps it's appropriate that the topic of Splinter Cell: Conviction's exclusivity is steeped in a cloak-and-dagger mystery.

When asked if the ambitious Xbox 360 and PC stealth title was exclusive in the really real sense, producer Alex Parizeau simply stated, "It's exclusive," and admitted that it was a business arrangement with Microsoft. Prodding about timed exclusivity (a la BioShock and Fallout 3 DLC) didn't yield anything less enigmatic, so they turned to lead game designer Steve Masters. "As far as I know," he said, "this is completely exclusive."

"[BigDownload was] a little worried when [they] saw the big Splinter Cell Conviction banner at the LA Convention Center this week with just an Xbox 360 logo. [They] thought for a moment that Sam Fisher's latest spy adventure was going to bypass the PC. Thankfully Ubisoft's E3 2009 press conference on Monday put that thought to rest."

Splinter Cell: Conviction will be coming to both the PC and Xbox 360; it was previously believed that it was an Xbox 360 exclusive.

By now one should know that retailers' expected release dates for upcoming games that don't have official release dates aren't all that reliable. But after searching the internets and coming across the way long delayed (yet rather anticipated) Splinter Cell Conviction popping up at retailers with a similar February release, well ... we just had to share.

CVG: Conviction pushed back to 2009-2010 fiscal year - "back to the drawing board"?

Don't say we didn't tell you; Ubisoft has officially delayed Splinter Cell: Conviction into its 2009-2010 fiscal year, after Xbox World 360 mag reported so back in May of this year.

The ambitious stealth instalment will now be released some time between April 2009 and March 2010. Previously it had a release date before Q1 2009.

A few months back Xbox World 360 magazine reported that the game had been taken "back to the drawing board" and pushed back into the festive period of 2009 - or as late as spring 2010. Nail on the head, then.

When Ubisoft didn't show Splinter Cell: Conviction at its last event, people worried a little about how the game might be doing. Fear not - the game's doing great. So great, they say, that Ubisoft just decided it'd be better off releasing it as part of its "2009-2010" lineup instead of in this year's fiscal fourth quarter. You know, to "bolster" next year, as the company said in its fiscal first quarter results statement.

Signs at Ubidays seemed to suggest that the game was undergoing a reworking, though Ubisoft's reps were specifically vague on details. We also heard that a "way too egotistical" Michael Ironside would no longer be returning as the voice of Sam Fisher.

Last week reports surfaced suggesting that Splinter Cell: Conviction, the latest chapter in Ubisoft's Sam Fisher saga, had gone back to the drwing board for a drastic reworking. Now that the company's Ubidays event has come and gone without even a thumbnail screenshot from the game, a representative is ready to give us specifics on how vague things are with Conviction.

In reference to speculative stories that have appeared recently, in January of 2008 we announced that the game would be released in the fiscal year of '08/'09. And at this point in time we are not ready to be more specific than that. We will begin to communicate more once we feel the time is right for us and our fans.

As the folks at CVG pointed out, last year's Ubidays event saw the game being played by developers, so the vague statements and lack of any assets definitely points towards a complete reworking, and those are never good.

Perhaps they just wanted to stuff it with extra awesome? Maybe? A little?

More After the Jump.

"Hi guys,

It's been a while since our last message but we're happy to say that development of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction is continuing well and the game is shaping up nicely. The team here is very dedicated and focused to making sure that Conviction turns into an amazing experience of Splinter Cell.

There are lots of rumours flying around right now about Conviction's development status and we can tell you that the gameplay has evolved, similar to what happens in every game's development process, and you won't be disappointed. We take your feedback from these forums very seriously and, although we can't respond to each and every thing people say, we do take these posts into consideration when making the game.

Unfortunately we're not able to make Ubidays this year but in the forthcoming months we'll be back in touch to begin showing you this new installment of the Splinter Cell series.

Following Splinter Cell: Conviction's disappointing no-show during last night's Ubidays press conference, Ubisoft has moved to quell speculation by claiming the game simply needs more "polishing".

Speaking to Eurogamer in Paris earlier today, global development boss Christine Burgess-Overmard insisted: "The team is still working on it". Nevertheless, speculation on the status of the high-profile project has been mounting after a lengthy information blackout since its unveiling a year ago, further fuelled by a recent magazine report suggesting the game was undergoing a major overhaul.

"Splinter Cell is one of our major IPs, so we don't let them go out before they're perfect, and it's not yet perfect," Burgess-Overmard explained. "So the team is polishing it so we can have a great game to offer the consumers." However, when pressed on a timeframe for the next reveal, she refused to be drawn, adding: "Not yet. When it's ready."
