From the dystopian corridors of BioShock's subterranean "paradise" to the Strogg-infested space stations found throughout the Quake franchise, First Person Shooters have found countless ways to establish themselves as rich, enjoyable experiences, capturing the hearts and trigger fingers of gamers worldwide.

Even if it's just blasting away wave after wave of demons in Blood, or perhaps saving mankind from itself as you traverse Half-Life 2's City 17, the FPS genre has proven itself time and time again.

Phil Elliott of GamesIndustry.biz writes:

"An in-game advertising campaign run by Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) last year in two Tom Clancy videogames prompted a 500 per cent increase in activity on the related recruitment web site, it has been revealed.

The campaign, which featured billboards advertising careers at GCHQ in Ubisoft titles Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Rainbow Six: Vegas, ran for a month and was managed by TMP Worldwide, according to a report in Recruiter.

Kate Clemens, head of GCHQ's digital strategy at TMP, stated that she felt the campaign had been successful as a general profile-raising exercise, with traffic increasing from around 500-600 people per day visiting the "Careers in British Intelligence" site to between 4000 and 7000."
Player's Pack Red Edition, new download content for the Xbox 360 version of tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Vegas, is gearing up for release at the end of March.

It's not yet confirmed if the content will be paid-for, but we've been informed that the pack includes three brand new multiplayer maps, two '"relit" multiplayer maps and two new multiplayer game modes.

Player's Pack Red Edition 's two new modes - we'll deal with those first - are Assassination and Total Conquest. Assassination tasks ...
The content supposedly contains ten new maps and two new multiplayer modes for 800 MS points. One of the new game types, Assassination, requires players to protect their player controlled VIP and attempt to assassinate the opposing team's VIP. Conquest asks players to maintain control over certain sections of the map, similar to King of the Hill and Territories game types in other games. The content is scheduled to arrive in March.
We recently got a chance to play Rainbow Six Vegas multiplayer, but before we dive into the play experience, we need to tell you about the revolutionary new feature that left us dumbstruck. Rainbow Six Vegas uses the Xbox Live Vision camera to grab two photos of your face and graft them onto your multiplayer character. The effect is simply amazing, and the likeness is phenomenal.

This feature is just a part of what the Rainbow Six Vegas team has dubbed Persistent Elite Creation 2.0 (or PEC ...
This latest batch of Rainbow Six Vegas images show off the game's multiplayer character creation editor, where you can sculpt your own hard-boiled Rainbow operative to take into the online hot zone. There's also a trio of shots showing some multiplayer action kicking off in a casino, complete with rows of slot machines and a high-rise rappelling moment in a derelict warehouse.

We've already been impressed by the single-player element of Vegas, showcased in a massive ...
"Rainbow Six Vegas is about four things: tension, tactics, realism and close-quarters combat," announced Senior Producer Chaddi Lebbos at a recent hands-on event held by Ubisoft in Las Vegas itself. We got to wrap our itchy trigger fingers around this daring tactical shooter and we can verify that he was right to mention tension first.

"Hell has broken loose in Vegas," Chaddi continued, "we drew heavily on the hit television show 24 as a main reference, where appearances are not as they seem." ...
Whenever we want to get excited about the next generation of gaming, gazing upon some Rainbow Six Vegas shots always helps. There's nothing so spectacular as seeing a special forces team taking on a terrorist threat with Las Vegas - one of the most glitzy and bizarre cities in the world - as a backdrop.

The Rainbow Six team have made the trip to Nevada because of international terrorist Irena Morales who has led a team of mercenaries into Vegas to lay siege to the casinos ...
Ubisoft delivered a smattering of new screens from Rainbow Six Vegas today. These screens appear to have been taken from the E3 demo that was only shown behind closed doors at the Ubisoft booth. Not only does the city of Vegas look unbelievably hot with the world famous strip lit up in microscopic ...
• Rainbow Six Vegas (WMV, 47.3MB)

Wednesday 14 June 2006
Be sure to take the time to watch this new footage of Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Vegas. It's a complete walkthrough of the stage that was used to wow the crowds at this year's E3, and it's dazzling stuff.

The movie opens with the game's anti-terrorist squad sweeping through the sky above Las Vegas in a chopper - a viewpoint nicked straight from Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, but much, much prettier - before following the four-man team ...
Ubisoft has released a drool-worthy walkthrough of a level from Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, the first military shooter in the series specifically created for the latest wave of consoles. Taking many of its cues from GRAW, Rainbow Six Vegas is not limited to the first-person view any longer. Now when Logan takes cover, the view will shift to an over-the-shoulder perspective to enable ...
Ubisoft has confirmed that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, the latest in its tactical squad-based shooter series, will only be coming out for next-gen consoles.

Although unannounced, it was firmly believed that Xbox and PS2 versions would be created just as Ubisoft had done previously with its stablemate first-person shooter, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter.

While no official explanation has been offered, presumably the reason Ubisoft is giving current-gen consoles the cold shoulder is in ...
