Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution - hands-on

World domination no longer takes as long, and now it's more fun

Although we've sampled Revolution's single-player and multiplayer games, we barely had a chance to get started before our time was up. However, even in our brief experience, we were able to advance to the Bronze Age and almost unlock catapults - five more minutes and we totally would have had them. After that, Genghis Khan wouldn't have known what hit him (but it would have been big rocks).

The overall tone of the game - especially when we met with Barbarians and other civilizations - was sarcastic, snarky and made us smile. But the core of the game still seems like it will be serious enough for veteran strategy gamers as well as newcomers. Each of the 16 civilizations has a strongly unique personality and its own advantages, so we're looking forward to getting to try them all out soon. It shouldn't be too long a wait, either, as the game's due out on June 3.
