The cult favorite Sensible World of Soccer was finally released on Xbox Live for 800 points, but the download carried a little something extra: in-game advertising via the Microsoft-owned Massive Incorporated.

The listing for the game on Major Nelson's blog lets you know that "Massive may collect your Internet protocol address and other anonymous information for the purposes of transmitting and measuring in-game advertising."

Do you feel comfortable paying $10 for a game that will be used to sell advertising space and collect your information?

The game suffered from Xbox Live issues and was removed from the service and later restored; it's unknown if the issue involved Massive or the normal sort of technical difficulty.

Sensible World of Soccer Fixed, Returns to Xbox Live (News)

The arrival of Kuju Sheffield's much-anticipated update to Sensible World of Soccer (X360) this week was marred by nonfunctional online play, causing Microsoft to pull the game from Xbox Live Marketplace. Publisher Codemasters and Microsoft have made a fixed version of the title available, and it's now available again for download on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

Users in Codemaster's online forums have confirmed that the online play is indeed working. Any users who downloaded the buggy version of the game can redownload the title free of charge after deleting the original.

After an eternal wait for Sensible World of Soccer to arrive on Xbox Live Arcade, it's finally arrived this morning only to be pulled from XBL hours after its release. The problem is all down to a bug in the game that signs you out of Xbox Live and refuses to let you sign back in until you manually returned to the dashboard. You'd think Codies would've had time to test this stuff in its massive dev time, but obviously not.

This week on Xbox Live Arcade, gamers will be treated to a double dose of fun as two new games hit the marketplace on Wednesday. The two titles include the classic arcade shooter Tempest and the 90's sports classic Sensible Soccer.

Sensible Soccer will cost gamers 800 points and Tempest will be priced with the bargain bin tag of 400 points.

In a press release announcing the Fall Update's Xbox Live Arcade Hits program, Microsoft also announced the next few months' upcoming Xbox Live Arcade games that are scheduled for release. As things stand right now, the next XBLA games to get released are Arkadian Warriors, Brain Challenge, GripShift, N+, Omega Five, Poker Smash, Rez HD and Sensible World of Soccer. No specific release schedule for each game has been confirmed just yet, but it's always nice to see what's headed down the old XBLA pipeline. And this list also lets us officially get excited for N+ and Rez HD.

There's no need to sulk into your Asteroids after all; Codemasters has finally confirmed that Sensible World of Soccer will be released on Xbox Live Arcade on December 19. Just in time for Christmas.

The news was dropped by an administrator on the official Codemasters forum. XBLA dates aren't usually revealed this far in advance, but the poster's assurance of "I'll stake my job at Codemasters on it," is concrete enough for CVG.

The gist of it is pretty simple. Codemasters has announced it's set to bring Sensible World of Soccer to Xbox Live Arcade this summer, describing the decision as a "no-brainer".

Since the revelation that Sensible World of Soccer would grace both PC and Xbox Live Arcade, the UK developer has remained tantalisingly tight-lipped regarding the matter. However, in an update on the official SWOS forum, Nick Pili, director of casual gaming at Codemasters, has finally unveiled some more information on the Live Arcade version.

Codemasters has said it's evaluating the possibility of bringing some of its IPs to Xbox Live Arcade. Although Sensible Soccer 2006 received mixed reviews, an aspect everyone was disappointed not to see was the inclusion of the classic Sensible World of Soccer. According to a senior source with ties to Codemasters, there were plans to include "the Amiga version of Sensible World of Soccer as an unlockable aspect of Sensible Soccer 2006," but in the end it didn't happen.

All is not lost though. The source also told Eurogamer that Codemasters "wants to do a rewrite of SWOS for Live Arcade."
