We don't need a plot to enjoy a jewel-swapping festival of multicolored explosions. And yet, one of the best things about Jewel Quest is its own obsessing with its silly backstory. The thin premise of plumbing ancient Mayan ruins gets slathered all over this game for no particular reason ... except maybe charming the Microsoft Points out of our account. If you've tired of Bejeweled and are terrified of a more twitchy arcade experience like Mutant Storm or Geometry Wars (or you just need a break from them), Jewel Quest offers enough distraction to make it worth the price.
