Frontlines: Fuel of War

Online shooter from the Modfathers

Generic but fun. It sounds a bit like an insult, but it very definitely isn’t. Especially when applied to this first-person shooter, because all of the generic bits come from the periphery: the futuristic setting, superpower-vs-superpower plot and parts of the basic multiplayer mechanics. The bits that mark it out as fun are far closer to the core: 60 different drivable vehicles, 32 (unconfirmed) players online and the chance to push your soldier up the rankings as the war progresses both on and offline.

Anyway, with many of the members of the newly-formed Kaos Studios team having cut their teeth on mods for Battlefield, they already know what it takes to get the most out of already established technology and others’ plans. Their experience as both creators and gamers is revealed in the little tweaks and small shots of originality in the game - one of which is the Frontline System which is designed to stop the battles becoming too spread out or sparse by concentrating all of the current objectives in one area. That way the combat stays compact and the campaign will only spread in a sandbox-style when each battle is won. We’ll have more information in the coming weeks, so check back at this space.
