A very good article. When I played gears 2 I noticed that The COG hides A LOT from the actual solidiers of the COG.I think that the COG has blinded the solidiers into thinking it's just Locust are homicidal evil monsters and humans are the goodguys.Thank you for this article.
I also wonder, how old is that outpost in the Gears 2,and the sires inside of it?
good article i agree. also ive noticed in Stormrise if you play as the echelon you are the bad guys. as it says on the website the sai (whom i play as all the time) have been treated like second class citezens for a while and are fighting back they are the real heros
While this is veyr well thought out....if they had read the book, they would know that their theory is false: the Locust are still the bad guys, though maybe not quite as bad as the COG try to make them out to be.
Several times in the book Aspho Fields are there places where things are mentioned that nullify the author's theory.
One time is when Colonel Hoffman (then Major Hoffman) mentions that for as long as humans have walked the face of Sera, wars have been about developing technology to move mass amounts of troops over land, as Sera is essentially on contious landmass. Why would you need to develop something that we already have today if you're our colonists?
Further, in the book you find out just how limited Seran technology is - humans are just starting to fully grasp the concepts of satelites and their uses, such as with the Hammer of Dawn. They have not even thought of, much less come from, sending someone to outer space.
Seran architexture is also very different from what colonists would have brought with them, or start to make on their own, considering their hertitage.
Also, in the book you find out that the COG are the only "English" speaking country/countries - even then, when looking at the official Gears material, its in all sorts of different languages - none of them Earth-based. Further, you see several characters in the book use another language, and in the game you see that Tai is very different from the rest, as he comes from one of the islands.
And in the game, it hints that the humans may have accidently created or awakened the Locust and their "God Wurms" through their Imulsion Mining and studies, or through human genetics experiments.
im inclined to disagree here. i thought the same as this article when i played GoW1... but after playing 2, i surmise that the locust are in fact humans of the same planet transmogrified by emulsion poisoning. if u read the notes scattered about about the "sickness" spreading, u take into account the stasis tube creations and the fact that emulsion transforms anything it comes into contact with, its pretty obvious that the people of jacinto are turning into locusts and marcus' father is somehow involved with the experimentation along with the locust queen. as a side note its possible that the locusts are the ex hmans and its possible the emulsion locusts are the true inhabitants :)
Maybe you can stop to think about how, yes, this is sort-of based on events right now(imulsion and oil corresponding) and thats the point. maybe this is to raise awareness with morals and whatnot. Maybe not flawed charecter design? And the queen said that they didn't want to ask to share the planet. They wanted to invade. If it was their planet for so long, don't you think they would've colonized the outside of their planet? The truth is that the storyline is too full of holes (holey) for anyone to assume they know exactly whats going on. That why there is no year given, no real historic events referred to, and so on. But in the end, i respect this article, and encourage more. Keep up the good work.
i love gears but i was reading this one book called armor and it was made before gears and its got this guy whos names felix and he on a differnt planet and hes fighting these ant thing that live in hole excaly like locust some one els should read ir and then youd no what im goin for
Aparrently this was made before GoW 2. Cause at the begining of the game, it shows a space veiw. What do you see? EARTH. Sera is probably a country in the game.
