Videogame music makes Bullitt better

VIDEO: The best car chase ever, now with aural improvements

Words: David Houghton, GamesRadar UK

Ah, the old Bullitt car chase. Filmed in 1968 and never bettered to this very day, the Steve McQueen competetive automobile frenzy is a defining moment of 20th century cinema. It's tense. It's exciting. It's beautifully choreographed and it's crunchingly visceral. And that viscerality is helped no end by the sparsity of the scene's soundtrack.

But that got us wondering. Could Bullitt actually be improved with music? Was there a track which could possibly add extra tension and drama to this already most tense and dramatic of scenes? And then we realised. Yes there was. There was but one Final Fantasy track that could do the job. And here it is. And you thought this chase was high octane before...

Tune in next week for another of our little cinematic improvements. And in the meantime, check out any you've missed through the links below and let us know about any you've dreamed up or made in the comments.

Hahaha, that was totally not the FF music I was expecting, but it was overall much better than I was expecting too. Funny stuff GR.

I think All the Pretty Horses and Brokeback Mountain could also use the Chocobo treatment.

I was hoping for the Bike Chase music from Chrono Trigger - it would have also worked. The Terminator one still made the laugh the hardest.

i think the metal gear solid 3 theme (not the james bond one) and the matrix would be cool

Damn that was great. It's almost as if that was the true soundtrack to the movie to anyone who didn't recognize the theme was from FF. Terminator and Reservoir Dogs are still the best I think.

It fits so well. Final Fantasy should have some car chase scenes.
