Janis Joplin, ever on the cutting edge of culture, was one of the first female rockers to get inked. Cher put celebrity tats squarely into the mainstream during the early 80s, and by the late 80s bands like Jane’s Addiction and The Red Hot Chili Peppers had elevated the art to new heights.
