These Screenshots Are Fake!

Warning: Do not believe your eyes. Not even a little bit

Words: Ben Richardson, GamesRadar UK

Duke Nukem Forever

This is actually the winner of a DNF fake screenshot contest, so all the hard guessing work is done for us. The Gila Monster logo, though, is so right for the game we wouldn't be surprised if this was a real screen, in some backwards reverse anti-marketing skit by DNF devs 3D Realms.

PS3 in-game XMB

The things people fake is always amusing. Who fakes an in-game XMB? That said, the fuzzy focus and indistinct image behind the XMB do add to a decent - if never convincing - attempt. Still, why not fake something interesting?

Super Mario Galaxy DS

Sorry. That thing about the in-game XMB was awesomely dull. So why not enjoy this fantastic fake footage of the DS-compatible unlock apparently hidden away inside Wii's Super Mario Galaxy to take away the dreary mind-taste.

Half-Life 2... Again

Another trick for fooling people with your fake image is putting "HL3 Demo" followed by meaningless letters in the corner of the screen. It doesn't work if you've just pasted the HUD over a photograph, though. Doh.

One reason for doing some of these, is to learn how to use Photoshop, or whatever graphics package you're using. (There's something other than Photoshop?) It's the posting them as 1) original art or, in this case 2) as authentic screen shots that's the sad thing. My daughter is learning photoshop. What better way to learn texture blending and lighting angles.

DS Halo? FYI, people who think the DS is a "serious" console, no.
Well you might just fit Master Chief's head in.....

LOL@ Halo 3...Again. I could almost make out the G-Man in the background.

Most of them were stupid, but Super Mario Galaxy DS...that was believable. I kinda wish it was real.

By the way, with all the of the Killzone screens, it reminds me of the actual story. I haven't played the first (didn't have a PS2), but from what I gather it wasn't a great success, and the hype for the new one is shaky at best.

I have been looking through the story and the history of Killzone of the official website, and I gotta say, it is fucking mindblowing. It's great not because of it's originiality (space marines and colonialization, etc), but that the future they've painted with the story is so believable (the only problem with it is the timeline; within 200 years the human race has completely evolved into the Helghast, not probable). If they incorporate the story at least into the manual or make a history book based on it, I'd buy that shit.

Speaking of, why the hell don't video game companies market the shit out of games with history books (not fan fiction shit)? I'm sure that the Halo series (an easy target) would sell even more copies (if that's even possible) if, before 3 came out, they put out a complete history book for the common crowd to buy and be invested in the story and the universe.
