Street Fighter IV

The worst Street Fighter characters ever

We top off Street Fighter Week with a look at the characters we don't need to see in IV

Words: Tyler Wilde, GamesRadar US

We'll be honest - most of these characters are from the Street Fighter III series. The games introduced a 12-year-old's sketch book worth of extraordinarily absurd bogeymen and we'll never forgive them. Okay, maybe we will, but we're still going to point and laugh.

Of course, not all of Capcom's bizarre deviations occurred in SF III - there's plenty of awful character design in the series to ridicule, and we've collected the best of the worst for you to peruse.

Don't get us wrong - we love Street Fighter, check out some of this week's other retrospectives for proof!

Dudley

An elite British boxer roughly patterned after famous fist-fighter Jack Johnson, Dudley makes his entrance in SF III in search of a stolen antique car, further perpetuating the harmful stereotype that British people love antique cars.

Above: "Pardon me, sir, do you fancy a ruck? Oh bollocks, I've forgotten the Grey Poupon!"

Hugo

Again, a character sourced from a real person - Andre the Giant. Not a bad resemblance, excepting the bulbous Scandinavian sausage fingers. He can at least be remembered as the character with the most descriptive name - it probably took five Tequila shots and a creative mind on par with Da Vinci's to come up with this one.

Above: Yep, Hugo is pretty huge. Clever.

Yun

You would think that being a Kung-fu master, skateboarding, and wearing a hat would make you cool. Actually it makes you look like a complete tool. Weird.

Above: Radical!

Haha, great article as usual. Just wanted to point out that Micheal Jackson character is from the "Smooth Criminal" video not Thriller... in case anyone out there thinks you are crazy!

I also thought he kinda resembled Rorschach from the Watchmen... at any rate, very poor character design

Author needs to be shot for putting Yun on this list (arguably the best character in SFIII:TS).

I've also played with most of the others. Q is kool, the rest are so-so. Can see why they don't appeal to all.

My favorite mysterious man is that guy with no face (don't remember his name) from Justice League Unlimited. In a way, he is wearing a mask that makes him immune to gases, allows him to see in every direction at once, and, if you saw the last episode, you know that a major way he fights crime is by driving around his 1950s style car and shooting anything that isn't instantly killed by his car. Those powers ALONE got him onto the Justice League with Batman and Superman.
Also, I really liked the nanobot episode (in the desert where the space cannon is first used) because I realized another character I liked was Atom, since he can control his size/weight and use it to his advantage, plus he gets put in a "special place" when he is being carried by Wonder Woman to the big machine, and at one point WW tells him that she needs "both hands" (she was carrying him in one hand).

Wow. if this doesn't start a flame war I don't know what will.

By the way, games should have as many schoolgirls as you can get.

kruiser is right about Q. He really does look like rorsach. Now if only they could make a game about watchmen that won't plain suck.

Even if Yun is a good character, which he is, he still looks like an absolute idiot like that. Baseball cap + kung-fu outfit + skater = stupid idea.

It seems like the author is picking on SFIII. Yun, Dudley and Urien? Come on! Go pick on the real worst SF characters - those in SFIV! Seth and Rufus are by far the worst.

Q arrive from a japanese tv-fiction, but guys those hits that he makes are very strong, seem unstoppable...yeah he haven't so cool moves, but fist and slam...ahahaha seem that he plays basketball with the opponent's body ahahah, Oro s awesome to me, is very strong, certainly u must know to use it! Dudley is a boxer, is the Bison's updated version in SF III series, Necro is a melting of Dhalsim and Blanka, we mustn't be so rude to judge them....^^!

Have to agree with everyone about Yun. Oro made me lol, but Gill was just annoying to beat.

Lol, just noticed that one of your characters in your article "12 fighters we'd like to see in Super Street Fighter IV" is also in this article about fighters you DON'T want to see in Street Fighter IV. Nice continuity, GR!

@nadrewod

You stole my line... and there's more than one.

nadrewod & SleepingDragon

This is a list of characters they don;t want to see in Street Fighter IV. Super Street Fighter IV is a 'Totally' different game, so the rules of this article are null and void.
