Devil May Cry 4

We've never been completely satisfied with DMC4's industrial techno battle music. Yes, it's got exactly the right tone of pulse-pounding badassery for the game's combat sequences, but it just feels a little plastic and tinny compared to what it could be. And it's very, very repetetive. Time for some sonic improvements then.

Ennio Morricone - The Ecstacy Of Gold

First, a change of pace. While the thumpy, beaty stuff works well for DMC, we really wanted to bring out the epic nature of the battles. Dante and Nero are classic lone heroes with the quietly dangerous stoic gait of a classic western gunslinger. Thus, we looked towards Ennio Morricone's score for The Good, The Bad And The Ugly and chose this track. There have been few more stirring and enigmatic pieces of music written for any medium, and its rousing, climactic nature gives us genuine shivers when it accompanies a particularly stylish bout of demon slaying.

Overseer - Supermoves

But if you do want to take the electronic route, this is a fine choice. Taken from the soundtrack album to the excellent Animatrix DVD, Supermoves is heavy, bombastic, ominous, and mighty fast indeed. It's far more impacting than the game's original soundtrack and really shows up how insipid it actually is. Okay, so it's over-the-top to the point of nearing cheesy, but this is DMC we're talking about. A game in which the protagonists can't even take a dump without going into bullet-time. As such, Supermoves is a perfect fit.

'The Chase' is also the intro music for George Noory's awesomely crazy late-night conspiracy theory show.

Great article! I'm a little surprised some Metallica didn't come up in this though. You should make another article like this. Try Halo 3 and "For Whom the Bell Tolls".

very good. loved both of them. but i think the ending song to bladerunner would be best suited to a game like mass effect. audio style is similar but Vangelis - Blade Runner End Title Theme would punch up the atmosphere
