Comic relief
Serving up some witty banter during the heat of battle is an important superhero ability. Not everyone can do it, but when it works it's a thing of beauty (see Spider-Man). In a group setting, it's a requirement. Too many heroes have sticks up their butts (see Superman, Captain America, etc.) It's up to the comedians to save the day from a grim future.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance: Sure you have Spider-Man, who can trade quips with the best of them (he once asked Electro if he was AC or DC during a fight.) More importantly, you have Deadpool! Marvel's merc with a mouth can serve up some hilarious standup monologues during the most chaotic battles. His one-liners in the game are great. He reminisces with Weasel about the time he stabbed him through the leg with a katana for taking the last cheese puff. He has the gall to ask The Black Widow if her boobs are real. Wade Wilson (that's DP's real name) is a great man.
Justice League Heroes: There are tiny doses of humor here. Some of it comes from the dysfunctional relationship between Superman and Batman (it's all costume envy, really). A bunch of one-liners come from The Flash. It doesn't add up to a whole lot because the game's script just isn't that good. Don't blame the legendary heroes of the Justice League. Blame the usually good Dwayne McDuffie for having a bad day at the word processor.
