Grand Theft Auto IV

Famous movie locations spotted in GTA IV

We put images from the silver screen up against Liberty City's digital recreations

Words: James Jarvis, GamesRadar UK

Grand Theft Auto IV's Liberty City is roughly based on New York. Lots of movies are filmed in New York. Here we try and recreate some of Hollywood's New York-based movie scenes using locations from GTA IV. Check out our handy work...

The Film: 1979 flick The Warriors depicts a Brooklyn street gang who find themselves in the Bronx being hunted by every other gang in New York. After fighting their way thorough the Bronx and Manhattan the Warriors return to Coney Island.

Real-life location: Coney Island, Brooklyn.

Robert De Niro was asked to play the role of Cowboy, but he turned it down and the role was given to an unknown actor, Tom McKitterick who left the world of film for the stage soon after filming was complete.

The Film: Phone Booth revolves around NYC publicist Stu Shepard, played surprisingly well by Colin Farrell. Who after entering a phone booth and answering a call gets held captive by a sniper. The shot above is taken from the opening minutes of the film and demonstrates just how close GTA IV’s Star Junction is to the real life Times Square.

Real-life location: Times Square, Manhattan.

The music for Phone Booth was composed by Harry Gregson Williams – the same man responsible for the score behind MGS4: Guns of the Patriots.

No offense, but are you simple or something?

The globe in King of Queens is in...wait for it...Queens! It's near the Hall of Science in Flushing, and it's probably one of the most recognizable Queens landmarks in existence.

The Columbus circle globe is a completely different beast. You guys got the comparison images right (the GTA one is the same one from the show), but it is NOT at Columbus circle.

Sheesh!

"Because of the film's contribution to New York City, December 11 2002 was named Two Weeks Notice Day by the Mayor of NYC."

As if Sandra "Avocado farmer" Bullock has contributed more than say... WOODY ALLEN to NYC.
