Based on everything I'd read and heard from my friends I was really excited about this game -- until I found out it has only 10 hours of play. Now it's a rental for me. It's not so much that it's not a good value -- $6/HR is less than I'd spend at the bar -- but finishing a really good game in 10 hours is so disappointing.

Damn it... I'm really on the fence about this one as to whether it's a rental or purchase... Halloween's coming and I'm really in the mood to soil myself while playing a game. (Is that a weird craving to have?)

From a guy who has spent the last 24 years playing and then looking for good games: get this. It's spot on.

Oh man, I want this game!! I love RE4 and playing an even scarier version is just sick.

I just recently beat dead space, and i have a few things to say about it. I think it is totally awesome. I think that the game was a bit too actiony to be REALLY scarey. I love the game, and i would jump at the sequal, but it wasn't as scarey as i thought it would be. I don't know if i am just really desensitised or if it was a bit too actiony but that was my only complaint about it. I did get paranoid at every single little vent i saw, but it only surprised me when an enemy got to me without me knowing. It wasn't Crap my pants scary. Other than that, I love Dead Space and i hope that if a sequal is coming out, that it comes out as soon as possible without diminishing the games quality.

You know, I tried to read this review, and by the end, I lost a little faith in you, GR. Let me begin by saying RE4 is NOT, repeat, NOT that good of a game. I've beaten it like six times, it's not very good, and I felt alienated because it wasn't scary, and it was easy as hell.

Dead Space is leagues ahead of RE4.

Dead space is like no other zombie-killer you have ever played. And yes, it is a zombie-killer because the recently deceased have come back to life. Dispute the category as you might, the dead are back and want to kill you--- Zombie.

Most know by now, that instead of headshots - dismemberment is key, a welcomed feature in my view. What most seem to miss is the religious aspect of the game. Many view it as a rip on Scientology, seeing that Unitology is the religion in the game/movie/comic. However, replace "Unitology" with any other religious view (Christianity, Judaism, Catholicism, ect.) and you have a 'through the looking glass' effect. The things that are happening on the USG Ishimura are the same things that happened thousands of years ago, and continue through present day.

In Dead Space, as in today's life, a lot is dictated by the churches' decision. The relic held importance over human life - the arch of the covenant destroys it's guardians who are the only people allowed to see it(each guardian has suffered the same ailments for decades.)

The stab that Dead Space takes at religion in general is refreshing. Putting ones' faith in any object, seeking guidance through it, and prioritizing above life above all else - paints a perfect picture of how religion has controlled the masses for centuries - and apparently centuries to come.

**Read this before complaining**
I am merely commenting on what I took from the Dead Space mediums.

I don't despise any religion, but I think taking ANY text verbatim is ignorant - you were not there. (Huckleberry Finn could have been real, but wasn't)

My favorite point to make in any religious discussion: How many of you worship Jesus?? A lot? - Ok, Lets look at the commandments - thou shall not worship any idol before me. Jesus was not god. Some text say he embodied god - but most agree he was merely a son. Therefore, for centuries people have been worshiping a false idol - so they went to hell.

What does all of this have to do with Dead Space? Maybe you will play it differently - see the cutscenes in a new light. Watch the video and see new meaning.

I don't know - nor do I care. Similar feelings should have popped up while playing Assassin's Creed - but apparently, you missed those...

(I give this 6hrs till it is deleted)

i just finished this game like 2 hours ago. It is fantastic and am now replaying to get the achievements "Maxed Out" and a game on impossible mode to get "Epic Tier 3.." but playing it one asy with all weapons at the beginning seems more like an action game but on impossible, its terrifing again because you feel alot more vulnerable..long comment but a truly brilliant masterpiece of the horror gaming genre
