Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway

Ignore the Second World War fatigue - this is going to rock

Flying in the drawn, unshaven face of Second World War videogame tradition, which states “war games shall be epic, gritty, a bit like that movie about Ryan, but above all must feature the Allies giving Jerry a good thrashing,” Brothers In Arms Hell’s Highway will center instead on one of the most dispiriting defeats suffered by the Allies.

Playing as both original BIA hero Matt Baker and Earned In Blood star Joe Hartsock, you’ll be dumped into a fateful campaign that saw the US 101st Airborne Division lose over 2,000 men. Thankfully, you now have a third team to boss about. While your two main squads go about recce-ing, the extra team can be assigned a main function, like blowing up tanks or mowing down Nazis with machine guns.

There’ll be a greater action slant, but vast next-gen power reserves will be taken full advantage of to make sure the series’ trademark brainy battles aren’t sacrificed for more explosions. A particularly cool feature is being able to see a character’s body - look down and you’ll see ammo hanging from your belt, and your legs as you vault over fences.

Little nods to detail like this, not to mention the tantalizing prospect of a full brain-and-trigger-finger workout, has us jaded bastards a little bit excited.
