Tennis fans have always loved bad boys - though they usually draw the line at actual beatings, wimps that they are. What weve got here is a pretty decent tennis game with added “street” or “extreme” bits. In the same way that Outlaw Golf could best be described as Tiger Woods after a night spent with Kid Rock in Vegas, ingesting suspicious substances and trying to choose your favorite lady of the night, Outlaw Tennis is Virtua Tennis if it arrived to the court on a ...

We all make mistakes while trying to make our way through this crazy world of ours. So we can empathize with Darkwatch hero, Jericho Cross when his well-intentioned train robbery goes awry and gets him bitten by a Vampire Lord, turning him into a blood-thirsty creature of the night. It could happen to any of ...

Matrix creators Andy and Larry Wachowski get credit for trying to use video games as an extension of their movie franchise instead of a mere retread - after all, why tell the same story if you can tell a new one? Trouble was, Enter the Matrix wasn't fun or satisfying, and The Matrix 's messiah mythos feels custom built for a traditional action/adventure game. You say you've got one guy with super powers who saves the world by shooting and kicking everything in sight? Step right this way! That ...

Undead hero Stubbs pees in the man's water supply. From his fetid bowels emerge meaty, disgusting blasts to choke his foes. There is no man, or any former man, like him for eating brains. He is the antihero's antihero, a stinky decomposing wreck who will not tug at anyone's heartstrings, but will oftentimes stop to rip someone's arm off and then beat them to death with it. As Stubbs, players must tear down a video utopia brick by stinking brick. The game plays out in the third-person ...

It wants to be different, that much is clear from the off. From the widescreen presentation of each scene to the smartass split screen cameras, Prophecy sets its agenda with astounding production values. What starts as a seemingly psychotic-homicide (committed by main character and loner Lucas Kane) quickly evolves into a well paced tale, mixing gameplay driven character background studies with ‘innovative action ...

SSX: On Tour is a fantastic game... but scratch beneath the surface veneer and its definitely an evolution rather than revolution. Yet youd be forgiven for assuming the latter. First up is the new skiing option. There are those in the boarding fraternity that cant abide their cousins on skis and imagine that the introduction of the two-footers into their extreme sports games tantamount to collaboration with the enemy. But apart from shelving this outdated view (hey - we all love the snow, ...

Sniping - and were sure lots of you will agree with this - is one of the best activities in modern videogames. A supreme mix of satisfaction, skill and cowardice, youre made to feel like a ninja, but a ninja armed like a small tank. A fair few of you out there probably have PhDs in headshots too. So, what about an entire game dedicated to this most simultaneously tense, irritating and exhilarating of Deathmatch ...

The original The Suffering was a decent enough action-horror-shooter combo set in a maximum security prison populated with all manner of suitably gruesome creatures that attempted to tear Torques limbs off at every turn. That is, when Torque wasnt morphing into a equally gruesome creature himself, and inflicting similar carnage. Ties That Bind kicks off where the first game ended and theres no prizes for guessing that whats served up is essentially more of the ...

How do you see it? Old skool nostalgia or long-forgotten crap? Are you a rabid retro-head or a sneering next-gen obsessive? Either way, its a mini-war that neednt be, especially when were talking about over thirty games for less than twenty clams. Perhaps its time that both sides of the dispute kissed and made up, and we can all get in the warm and have a great game of New Zealand Story. Er, ...

Resurrecting old and much-loved movies and turning them into games is always going to be a dangerous business. You've got to please a lot of different sets of people at the same time; fans of the original film, fans of the genre of game and gamers who've never heard of the movie that need to be won over. As you'd expect from Rockstar, The Warriors manages to pull it off, delivering both a worthy and worthwhile homage to the 1979 classic and also a worthy and worthwhile videogame. It's hard to ...
