Tenchu

OK. How do you screw this up? Everybody likes ninjas. Ninjas sneak. Metal Gear and Splinter Cell already sorted out sneaking for you. So why...?

Once the "it game" - back in the days of the original PlayStation - the series is now the ultimate also-ran. 2003's Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven wasn't groundbreaking like the old games, but it was still fun. Things took a sharp downward turn with the sequel, Fatal Shadows, though, and have yet to recover.

Like a poisoned rice ball, somebody choked on the crappy PSP version of the series. We never saw it in the US, just Europe and Japan. The Nintendo DS version just plain sucked: Nintendo never even sent us a copy to review. We did anyway. We wished we hadn't.

Now, there's Tenchu Senran for the Xbox 360. Official Xbox Magazine, our sister publication, included a demo on one of its discs recently... and opinions were definitely mixed. There's still hope for this series, but unless Senran yanks the series out of its slump - it's all over.

How come game makers even bother to make sequels if the suck? Do they think that gamers are drooling morons that will blindly buy anything that bears the name of a game that they enjoyed? If you're going to do something, do it right. It also doesn't make much business sense. Games only make money if people buy them and anyone who knows anything about games generally don't buy crap sequels. So why make something peopl aren't going to buy? It doesn't make any sort of sense at all.

Months and years later, we get amazing Megaman 9, the Battle Network has died and been replaced by Starforce, Sonic still sucks, DW: Strikeforce is said to be the best DW and is being ported to 360 and PS3, Tomb Raider still sucks, and Viewtifull Joe is now in another vs. Capcom game.

If anything I disagree with Nutt on,I hate Power Up and ZX because they look too cartoonish while X series was great till 6 where everything went downhill very fast (5 wasn't great, but not as bad as 6) and 8 was shit.

Christian Nutt probably got a lot of hate mail and "I told you so!!!!!" emails because of this.
