Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
VU Games | Xbox, PC

We can't decide what's more unbelievable: that this was a movie tie-in, or that it was tied to one of the worst films of 2004. A beautifully bleak first-person adventure, this prequel tasked players with sneaking and shivving their way out of an ultra-maximum-security prison of the future as murderous anti-hero Riddick.

Escape from Butcher Bay was a triumph on almost every level, outshining the crummy movie (and most of the games released that year) with brilliant level design, compelling characters, brutal action and some of the best in-game visuals anyone at the time had ever seen.

Sure, the loading times were ass, but they were a small price to pay for Riddick 's most jaw-dropping moments - like the first time you made a guard shoot himself with his own gun, or when you had only six minutes of flashlight time to navigate a pitch-dark, CHUD-filled maze. (That's before Riddick gets his fancy night-vision eyes, for those of you who follow this stuff.) The lack of multiplayer kind of hamstrung its appeal for shooter fans, but as movie-based adventures go, this was top-shelf all the way.

King Kong!
Maybe Im not old enough to appreciate its smartness and beauty, but c'mon I like Beyond Good & Evil and Rayman but King Kong was such a boring game I never even made it passed the first cave

Great games. Aladdin on the Genesis claimed a large chunk of my childhood, and GoldenEye was my most-played game on the N64. Butcher Bay is one of my all-time faves.

King Kong and Spider-Man are most deserving to be on that list. They're games directly based on the movies, and they were released alongside the films. To meet such a deadline and still release a quality product is nothing short of impressive.

On a side note, I also have great memories of Batman, Aladdin and Goldeneye.

The Riddick game is fantastic.

I really want a next-gen game with a similar theme - set in a Max-security prison and getting involved with all the inmates. I just loved how there was a really noticeable community in there. Outstanding game.

Just want to make one thing clear, vin diesel's movies are terrible with one maybe two exceptions. Cronicles of Riddick was a damn good movie! (Perfect Dark wasn't too bad either)

Aladdin and Spiderman 2, those were some good games.
I've seen most of these (or atleast some) of these movies, and I have got to say, they all deserved some list coverage. They were great games, it looks like, from great movies (apparently excluding Riddick. Personally never saw it except for about 10 minutes in the middle. It never made sense.XD).

I effing loved The King Kong game. Amazing for a movie game. And Spidie 2 was really good too.

The King Kong game for DS sucked big time cos it's stupidly hard to get out of the cave (there is an almost invinceble giant crab gaurding the exit)and almost straight after you get out a raptor appears which is also hard to kill. Spidey 2 tho is very gd especially compared to its sequel and the game before it.

i dont think king kong should be the movie-to-game adaption i think the game that deserves to go on number 1 is golden eye fo sho i remember playing that with my brothers and dad and i still play it today and king kong was way to short and it should have had jack black be a voice for it :0
