Just as we were beginning to worry that the Xbox version of Doom 3 and the PC expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil, wouldn't see release for months - following yesterday's news that they had - it's been confirmed today that both games will hit shelves on 4 April.Until now, we had only a vague idea as to when either game would be released, with developers id maintaining their characteristic "they're ready when they're ready" stance. The original was released in August and, despite some players ... » Read More

Xbox News | Doom 3
Much like sloppy-vowelled mockney Nigel Kennedy, the Xbox doesn't often find itself playing second fiddle but that is exactly what's happened to the big black box ever since Doom 3 appeared on PC. For while those lucky desktop-driven gamers have been shoving their torches into the gloom since August, Xbox owners have been waiting (and fiddling) in the dark for months. But some light has been shed on the subject by a couple of online retail supremos who have started claiming that Activision's ... » Read More

Activision have released a pair of new shots of the Xbox version of Doom 3 - the game that promises to be one of the most terrifying console shooters ever. Speaking at the recent Activate press event in Barcelona, Todd Hollenshead - CEO of Doom developers id Software - mentioned that, visually, everything that's in the PC version of the game is also in the Xbox incarnation and that the idea behind the title is for it to be an "interactive horror movie".Indeed, based on what we've seen of it ... » Read More

Xbox News | Doom 3
We've played through the first section of Doom 3 on Xbox - and it's one of the most atmospheric and, frankly, downright horrible games we've seen for an aeon.In classic Doom stylee, the early tasks are very basic, with the focus mainly on blasting the hell out of the hordes of really unpleasant looking monsters with the aid of grenades, pistols and a handy submachine gun. The best tactic, wherever possible, seemed to be to blast at the oil drums littering the typically dark level, which sends ... » Read More

When attendees at Microsoft's pre-E3 conference weren't goggling at Halo 2 multiplayer, they were mostly gawping at this massively impressive video of Doom 3. As the video makes clear from the get-go, all footage is of the game engine. Starting with some moody but less than terrifying level and lighting one-up-manship, the trailer ends in a torrent of nasties, guns and gore that bodes well for the hardcore Doom-mongers amongst ... » Read More

The very first shots of Doom 3 on Xbox have surfaced and, not surprisingly, darn good they look too. While the Xbox game obviously can't match the graphically sublime high-end PC shots already released, it still looks remarkably sharp and is clearly an exceptional title in the eye-candy department.Particularly pleasing is that developers Vicarious Visions have remained faithful to the original PC version of the game, with the environments and monsters offering fine representations of their PC ... » Read More

Xbox News | Doom 3
While Microsoft announced way back at last year's E3 that Doom 3 is Xbox-bound, we've had very little in the way of details on it. Although the fact that development didn't start on the Xbox version of the game until last July - two months after it was first confirmed - may have something to do with this. The game is reportedly not just a straight port of the PC original but has been partially rewritten specifically for Xbox. However, the game will retain the entire physics and lighting system ... » Read More
