I'm disappointed in the gaming industry, completely blocking used game it's fucking pathetic, I can understand why it's being done on computers, the odds of anyone going over to their friends house to play Call of Duty on their friends' computer while they watch seems a bit ridiculous, but what if I want to go to a buddy's house and bring along my copy of Halo 9 or something so we can co-op? Only to have my fun buzzkilled by the modern industry's raging boner for cash-grabbing? Seriously, blocking used games is fucking stupid, that's how alot of gamers save money, by buying used games and trading them out for other games instead of digging into their savings to buy a brand new copy of a game they'll only ever play once. =/ If Microsoft had any vague semblance of intelligence left in their cavernous skulls, they'd AT LEAST allow gamers to sign into their account on a friend's console, so that people who actually socialize face to face could enjoy some old fashioned couch gaming instead of having to buy a completely new copy for someone else. I've never owned a Microsoft console, and if these rumors are true, it's unlikely I ever will. Fuck them.

I love the photo of the tall Original Xbox on the last page. Hilarious.

There have been rumors about the 720 since the 360 came out. The first one I ever heard was that it was going to look like the silent cartographer from halo 3. That was 4 years ago

I can understand the used game thing but 100% on-line connection. Sometimes I don't want to talk to other people plus not like everyone has their own line. I know people share networks. Solid state cards don't those have a certain lifetime compared to disks. I get a touch screen I don't trust their handling just yet. Buttons just seem more natural the sense of touch is kinda nice. I say they should stop trying to innovate controls until they have the technology for stuff like ./hacksign or matrix thing without the needle.

whoa Whoa WHOA!! Slow down! That's only a rumor! Although that would suck, it's no use to get angry over something a mag said.
  • ThundaGawd - May 3, 2012 4:08 p.m.

Yeah, I know it's only a rumor, and it appears to have a low-ish possibility of actually happening, but they're already using online passes to access the vast majority of games, which is already bad enough in my opinion, but in this day and age, I wouldn't be surprised if this happened, knowing how passionately developers apparently hate used games retailers (for a reason I don't quite understand, why not just live and let live?). I already made a point on another article regarding how the industry is forcing online requirements on all players, an it's really bothering me, splitscreen multiplayer sucks the majority of the time nowadays asides from those few games that were meant to be played together (LittleBigPlanet, for example). It bothers me knowing that this rumor could very well come true, at which point the only way to play the games you want with your friends is going to be online. I love online gaming and all, but at some point, it's just not the same as shoulder-punching the guy sitting next to you who smacked you into a lava pit while playing LittleBigPlanet. I kinda overreacted, that much is obvious, but I hate it when I see things suggesting that developers are trying to eliminate one of the last few things I actually like about gaming T_T
  • Dadyo238 - May 3, 2012 5:41 p.m.

I gotta agree with that. You know what's pathetic? Since there's no good splitscreen these days, every time I have a buddy over, we'll boot up the Wii, and play splitscreen Red Steel, or Super Smash Bros. Red Steel. You remember that one?
  • codzprc - May 3, 2012 6:01 p.m.

Touchscreen controller? Like Dreamcast's VMUs, but touch-ier? Yes please! I love my VMU - especially since you could make animations and play games on them. I could see the touch gamepad being used as a hotkey system for a lot of games, and as a weapon select system, it could free up the D-pad (assuming it has one) for other functionalities. As it is now, the 360 controller has 15 usable buttons (including back) - having a touchscreen could massively expand the RTS and MMO genre for the console. Oh, and for people that religiously buy Madden every year, you could truly keep your playcall a secret (like you could with the VMU)... So there's that...
  • ThundaGawd - May 3, 2012 6:46 p.m.

Oh lawd, Red Steel brings back some amusing memories :D Nintendo's really the only developer that holds onto the splitscreen/local multiplayer formula, with games like Super Smash Bros. Mario Kart, Kirby, etc. It's nice to see at least one developer doesn't want to let that trend die out =/

Dear Gamesradar, I like you as a website. Really, I do. However, I've been vocal in the past about how stupid this new format is. Yes, I realize you need ad revenue, but this is intolerable. Your news coverage is great, but lets be honest there are plenty of video game news sites. The things I've always preferred about you are your features. The Weekly Top 7, your predictions, your want lists have always been great. Guess what are all in the new format now? The very things that set you apart. So, I'm removing you from my RSS feed. Thanks for the laughs, please consider dropping this stupid "Click for 3 more sentences" kick you seem to be on. Sincerely, Gillespee

Everything stated here is quite interesting, along with the article written about how console makers will start to charge like a cell phone company. Shitty move to make more money, because frankly 100 bucks for a console, plus 360 bucks for the live subscription over the course of 2 years, that adds up to be nearly the launch price of a PS3. I would rather take nearly $500 bucks, and invest it into a gaming PC personally.

*sigh* So much to say... No, it will NOT be 16-core. Give me a break. All of us in the CPU industry know this won't be happening in this timeframe. It might use the 6000 series AMD, but of course modified enough to hardly call it that. Yep, always-on Internet connections would not be the death knell for this thing, but it would survive. Just come in 2nd place among real consoles (which means coming in last). Using solid-state cards? Hah! Hell no! Do the math. First off, it has to be said that without more information, this really can't be answered. Most specifically on what class of cards they might use. But let's look at the options: A 16gb card can be as low as $7. Low-end, slower than you would ever want. Jumping up to class 2, an 8gb card is $22. The higher we go, it just gets more expensive, obviously. But, the sizes then are a factor. A rival website just this past week had an article about Revolution and 3DS game sizes, and compared them to 360's. Summary: of the 6 games they listed, all very popular, averaged about 6gb each. For this gen. What size are next gen going to be? And, so, what size of storage space will it need? So, play it safe, you need probably a minimum of 16gb cards. Look at the price of those cards all by themselves. You think that with media costing that much, the games will be priced at anything approaching "reasonable"? Especially when you consider that todays games, that cost less to produce, are released on 1cent media disks. No. Cards will not work for real consoles. This is getting long. Quicker version: Blu-Ray disks? Yes. 100% it will play them. If anyone is confused why this can happen, I can explain it in a follow-up. FK Kinect (the streak continues! 1068 days since it was announced and no one has found a real use for the thing), touchscreen anything and anyone who uses them. DVR, multiple versions: Duh.

"todays games, that cost less to produce" Meant "todays games, that cost less to develop"
  • SpiritTemple - May 4, 2012 1:57 a.m.

If the "always have to be connected to the internet" rumours end up being true, than this will fail to the other consoles.
  • P0ck3tC1am - May 4, 2012 3:55 a.m.

Just make a console like Steam....buy our games online, the console stores it to your hard drive and YOU HAVE THAT GAME FOR EVER.... no used game issue solved, and if you want to get a game you would has to have the interwebs anyway.
  • TURNAAAR - May 4, 2012 9:59 a.m.

If the used game block rumour is true, i will not being buying the next Xbox. This is because i suppport my local entertainment store to the max. I think i would actually miss getting the occasional faulty disc and having to walk back and get it repaired whilst i browse through other games. It's times like this I wish no next-gen console would come out, i've grown quite fond of the consoles i have now. I don't want this to change.
  • mbavalo - May 4, 2012 11:35 a.m.

Totally agree with you on that one. I have this connection with my ps3 now that I never had with my ps2, and its not like current gen machines are getting old, heck they are even finding better ways to make games on them, and graphics too! I think its too soon to be shifting to another generation of consoles
  • fortheroflz - May 4, 2012 9:17 p.m.

well this is a good time for me to go back to older consoles that i never played before and enjoy the cult classics of gameing, build a gaming computer, and say goodbye to this generation of gameing for ruining the gameing universe. thanks you fucking money grabbers...

Yes yes and yes. I thought slideshows were a thing of the past. I remember back when Digg was still a thing (waaaaay back when), any slideshow-style articles that got posted were immediately ridiculed for being dated and stupid. Please, PLEASE get rid of it. I even remember GamesRadar articles being applauded for NOT being slideshows.
  • TURNAAAR - May 5, 2012 7:43 a.m.

Also downloading games to your hardrive off of an online store just doesn't have the same feeling as picking a game up and browsing through the manual on the way home.
