Retailer Fry's Electronics this week discounted Sega's Virtua Tennis 3 for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 to $44.99. The latest entry in the tennis franchise typically sells for $59.99.
Weighing in at a hefty 841MB, a demo of Sega's ace tennis offering Virtua Tennis 3 is now up for download on Xbox Live. This means we're bound to hear even more racket-induced screaming from all corners of the office.

Sega put another dagger in the PlayStation 3 this week revealing that Virtua Tennis fans looking for the best experience in the next generation will find that only on the Xbox 360. The company said that Virtua Tennis 3 would be the first Xbox 360 game playable in 1080p - so-called Full HD. The game was already revealed to be one of the first 1080p games on the PS3. A bigger blow is that only Xbox 360 players will be able to take Virtua Tennis 3 online. While PS3 owners will have to settle for playing in their homes only, Xbox 360 owners will find a full Xbox Live experience including singles and doubles ranked and unranked matches. Also exclusive to the Xbox 360 is VT: TV - an online spectator mode where you can watch other players duke it out.

The most realistic tennis game just got better! SEGA today announced that Virtua Tennis 3 on the Xbox 360 will, for the first time in franchise history, allow players to compete with gamers around the world in Ranked and Player Modes for top scores on the Leaderboard on the Xbox Live. Virtua Tennis 3 will also support stunning 1080p graphics and a brand new VT:TV live spectator mode when the game launches.

The Xbox 360 release of Virtua Tennis 3 will be the first game on Microsoft's next-gen console to support 1080p, and will also offer a new VT:TV live spectator mode and opportunities for online-enabled racqueteers to battle it out in Ranked or Friendly modes over Xbox Live.

As IGN was checking out the new Virtua Tennis 3 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at Leipzig, they made note of the slight differences between the two versions saying that the PS3 edged out the 360 when it came to graphical dominance.

SEGA Europe has today announced a raft of new features and improvements for the upcoming Virtua Tennis 3. Besides the refinement of the World Tour Mode, ten new mini-games (and two classics) will make the line-up, together with Court Games - mini games for up to four gamers. Five set matches will also be added to Virtua Tennis 3 for epic games.
