Too Human

Also known as: Too Human: Part 1

Too Human would be a severely underwhelming game even if it weren't for its ten-year-long development or its outspoken creator. Awkward combat, a braindead camera and a laundry list of bad design choices make this title plainly mediocre. There's a solid game buried beneath it all, and determined gamers may find something to like here, but everyone else should steer clear of Too Human.

Since that ill-fateful, frankly disastrous E3 video there’s not been much revealed about Too Human - a game that, for a long time, has had bad news written all over it. Burdened by an ever-increasing development time and a stack of ‘issues’, it’s become an unkempt black hole; swallowing vast quantities of cash and giving almost nothing in return. The only news has been Silicon Knight’s court case with Epic, and » Read Full Too Human preview

Remember Eternal Darkness on the Cube? This is what the guys behind that are doing next. An epic action-RPG full of sparkly sci-fi, evil robots and guns, spun around Norse mythology. You play as Baldur, son of Odin, a god who has to protect humanity from a crushing onslaught of machines intent on turning us all into greasy dust. Expect celestial big cheeses like Thor to pop up, too. If it sounds like a pile of hokum, dont worry - remember Eternal Darkness. They know how to rattle out a good » Read Full Too Human preview
Too Human: From the developer's mouth
We speak with Silicon Knights founder Denis Dyack
Dec 04, 2007
Dec 4, 2007 Recently we had a chance to sit down with Denis Dyack, founder of Silicon Knights, and got some choice tidbits about his game thats been a looooong time coming. Too Human has been on the cards forever… but what is it, exactly? Dyack: Its a fusion between action and RPG. Weve not seen any other games quite like it to date in the industry, and it is why the game is hard to describe. Just imagine a game with deep skill trees, class systems, loot drops within action-orientated » Read Full Too Human preview

Baldur might be the Norse god of innocence, but he sure knows how to kick an ass or two
Oct 15, 2007
Oct. 15, 2007 If you've seen footage and screenshots of Too Human up to this point, chances are you got the impression that it's a traditional hack-and-slash action game, perhaps with some light RPG elements. The difference between this notion and reality could be measured in light years. We got to lay hands on Baldur himself at the developer's headquarters in Ontario, and were shocked to find a ludicrously deep RPG character development system that features five different character classes. » Read Full Too Human preview

Hands up, if everyone remembers Too Human, that rather uninspired third-person adventure that was universally panned at E3 2006? Do all you can to forget everything youve learned about it. Seriously, untie those knots, steal one of those memory wipers from Men in Black; if all else fails, bang your head against a brick wall. The gods decree it's time for action
Feb 27, 2007
Nirvana was touring Germany when work began on Too Human back in 1994. It was a five-disc epic for the forthcoming PlayStation console - but for one reason or another, development has been continuously halted over the last 13 years. And even this Xbox 360 version, which were informed is finally nearing completion, represents only a third of the final saga. Big old game, eh? Silicon Knights is a developmental studio of doubtless talent, so a project of this size is clearly something to prick up » Read Full Too Human preview

Is Silicon Knight's next worth getting excited about?
Feb 22, 2007
Six long years. Thats how long fans of developer Silicon Knights vampiric adventure Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain had to wait before getting their hands on the Canadian code-bearers next project, Eternal Darkness: Sanitys Requiem. Not that there were many fans left waiting, it would seem - their 2002 Lovecraft-inspired third-person mind-spinner tanked spectacularly. Which was a bit of a shame; it was a truly wonderful scare-a-palooza which used the fourth wall brilliantly to disorientate the » Read Full Too Human preview

Will this long-in-development action adventurer knock your socks off?
Jul 06, 2006
Thursday 6 July 2006 It's been 12 years and three consoles in the making; Too Human, part of a planned trilogy, is a project of substantial ambition and scale. The game is weaved around a complicated storyline arc of cybernetic gods and Norse mythology, so it comes as some surprise that the gameplay is quite simple. Too simple, you might » Read Full Too Human preview
Too Human - first look
Beat back Armageddon as a cybernetically suped-up god
May 11, 2006
Weve just had our first taste of Silicon Knights' Too Human, a third-person action role-player with so much cinematic flair that it may be eligible for an Oscar. The plot is movie-like as well, starring a cybernetic god borne from Norse mythology, tasked with saving humanity from an increasingly hostile mechanical and computer-infested world. Ironically, youll need to bolt on cybernetic enhancements to your body that drives your human nature ever deeper. These heavy-duty augmentations propel » Read Full Too Human preview
