The latest stage of Funcom's marketing for The Secret World revolves around the Templars, described as “the most uncompromising and traditional” of the three in-game factions. In the biggest public-awareness campaign for any secret society in recent memory, the website's Week of the Templars is here to make sure you know the London-based zealots back to front, starting with some new screens...
Here's a batch of fresh screenshots for next year's PC MMO The Secret World. If the first batch of screens were unified by one thing, it was their intense combat focus – whereas the dominant theme of these pics seems to be “brooding conspiracists giving the viewer their best tough-guy grimace.” Stare down the extremist Templars, amoral Illuminati and chaotic-neutral Dragon in a few of the game's hidden-in-plain-sight locales below...
Massively multiplayer online games have changed since they first crawled out of the primordial soup, but they've still remained unevolved in many ways. Combat, level progression, and player-versus-player elements have grown, but not in huge ways, and that's something The Secret World is looking to change. In this developer diary the creators not only explain their game's interesting lore, but show how, where, and why the PvP takes place, giving us a taste of what we can expect when the game releases next year (hopefully).
Funcom recently launched the registration process for the upcoming closed beta testing phase of the highly anticipated The Secret World. Visiting the official website and registering their interest, gamers were told that they were not guaranteed access, merely that their details had been registered. Now however, Funcom has relaunched the programme with the chance to guarantee access to the closed beta phase.
In honor of PAX weekend, The Secret World will soon be opening its doors to beta registration. The Secret World is the upcoming secret society MMO being published by Funcom and Electronic Arts. Finally a chance to play as the Illuminati, a moment we've all been waiting for, is coming.
Funcom's Secret World has been a long time brewing: first teased in an online ARG in 2007, the game's hype has been a slow but intriguing trickle of Templar seals, Illuminati lore and Mayan prophecy. Between titles like Assassin's Creed and the widespread obsession with all things 2012, that's an increasingly crowded field – so Funcom's ability to start showing off some solid glimpses of the game itself is well-timed. Though a release date's still a ways off – expect the game late this year or early next – this new trailer shows that the overarching “Savage Coast” game-world is in a state worth sharing...
The Secret World lead writer Dag Scheve talks about characters, their unique personalities and the way they act towards the player controlled characters. Funcom aims to create a diverse list of personalities that will act differently depends the region they come from. If you are interested to find out more information regarding NPC's check out the full blog post of Mr. Scheve below.
Eurogamer: MMO The Secret World will have to be a different game to work on consoles, Funcom has told Eurogamer. That's assuming the PC game becomes a huge success and justifies the continuation of the console project in the first place.
