Tekken 6

The Tekken movie was finally released in the UK on DVD and Blu-ray this week. We'd forgotten that this wafty guff of cinematic bum-fart even existed. To celebrate, this week's official GamesRadar Highlight is probably the film's most moving, emotive moment. We say 'probably' because it's the only bit we've seen. It is an exploding crescendo of acting.

"It was all a dream" is almost lazier writing than actually falling asleep on your keyboard.  It's the ultimate admission that the writer had no idea how to end his own story, or to put it another way, he was outwitted by his own one-dimensional characters.   It's also been used in more "Wizard of Oz" sitcom episodes than Toto, and has therefore measurably does more damage to scripts than an open flame.

TV isn't the only offender though – some surprisingly large videogame series have pulled the dream card too...

Ask just about anyone what the best kind of punch is, and they’ll probably say “uppercut.” This is partly because “uppercut” is the only punch that anyone outside of boxing fandom can actually identify by name, but mostly because seeing one pulled off well can be breathtaking. A rising blow from the hip to the target’s chin, a good uppercut can floor an opponent, break a jaw and potentially even kill. It can also look awesome.

Unsurprisingly, nowhere are uppercuts more awesome than in videogames, which since the ‘80s have shaped our perception of them to the point where they’re no longer just power punches employed by extremely tough men. They’re finishing moves, ultra-powerful attacks and metaphorical middle fingers to the enemies we’re about to knock unconscious. At their best, they also feel great to pull off, as proved by the following examples...

Roll up, roll up, get your fresh rumours here! Tasty, oven-fresh rumours, packed with speculative excitement and guaranteed 100% free of inconvenient substantiated fact!

Ahem. Sorry, a lack of coffee in the morning often makes me go a bit Carnie. Anyway, the point is that there’s another theory floating around as to what Street Fighter IV Producer Yoshinori Ono’s new game might be. And that rumour states that there are actually two new Capcom-related ighting games due for reveal at Comic Con, One by Ono, one by Namco.

They are rumoured to be Capcom vs. Namco (by Capcom, using the Street Fighter IV engine) and Namco vs. Capcom (by Namco, using the Tekken 6 tech). But, if this is true, then I suspect only one of them will be good. Click on for the details and the reasons for my 50% dubious response.

What will you fight for? That was the question Namco Bandai asked the UK when it invited the nation down to Namco Station in London for its prestigious tournament. Travelling from as far afield as Liverpool and Manchester, Tekken players from far and wide responded to the challenge as they all wanted to prove they were the best. Well, that and the small matter walking away with the grand prize of a 42”

The end of summer means the beginning of the game season, and today is the last Friday before the game industry’s big holiday push. Publishers jam the fall with games to challenge the true worth of your credit card – a double dog dare in the uncertain economy of 2009.

The whole point of us being at Gamescom is to play games. So that's what we're doing. We're playing games so we can tell you about them. And this is where you'll be able to read our reactions, impressions and opinions of the games that are being played. We'll be updating this page as more games are sampled and experienced.

All this talk about fighting games lately may have you thinking, “What about that awesome fighter Tekken? Isn’t a new one of those coming soon?” Well, your inquisitive mind is correct - Tekken 6 is coming this year for both the 360 and PS3, probably in the fall if we had to guess. Recently we had a rundown of some of the fighters, and now it’s round two.

Would you believe it’s time for another King of Iron Fist tournament? It’s that special time where humans (young and old) tussle with bears for a shot at glory… or to take down a large corporation run by the devil. We can’t tell anymore what the Tekken series is about, but we have a damn good time playing.

Set for release this fall on the 360 and PS3 is Tekken 6, the biggest Tekken yet. With a rumored cast of 42
