Dec 21, 2007 December is the month of giving and, better yet, receiving. December is the month when sugarplum visions of $400 consoles and $60 games dance through your head. And, of course, December is the month when your loved ones usually just cheap out and buy you a gift card instead. So long as that gift card is an online points card from Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo, however, you'll be alright. With so much downloadable content available for so little money, you could stretch a few

Space Giraffe developer Jeff Minter has said he's going to stop writing about game development on his blog after taking a bit of a shoeing for a late-night post earlier in the week where he complained bitterly that the Xbox Live Arcade version of Frogger was outselling his latest game by more than ten to one. Not seeing a lot of reason to continue even trying to make games, at this point, when a remake of Frogger, one of the worst games in the history of old arcade games, can outsell Space Giraffe that we put so much love and effort into, by more than ten to one, in one week, Minter had written. OK, we get the message. All you want on that channel is remakes of old, shite arcade games and crap you vaguely remember playing on your Amiga. ... We'll shut up trying to do anything new then.

Jeff Minter can't take bad press apparently, so he has issued a media blackout on his upcoming project, according to Gameplayer. Nobody not known and trusted by us even gets a sniff of this till it's out after the f***ing-over we got last time.

Have you spent the last few months salivating over Jeff Minter's latest title Space Giraffe? Xbox 360 Wire is reporting that OXM this month reviewed Space Giraffe and gave it a disappointing 2/10. Further investigation reveals that the reviewer couldnt actually play the game properly and perhaps gave the poor review out of frustration more than anything else. YakYak moderator said OK, I found him on the Partnernet leaderboards. Come to think of it I remember having seen his entries before because they were a bit unusual... Read on for the full story.

Kicking off the Independent Game Summit at this year's GDC, veteran game coder and camel fanatic Jeff Minter has given a fresh showcase of his new XBLA game Space Giraffe, which he insists is not Tempest 4000. Space Girafe is not Tempest. It may look like Tempest but that's basically because I wanted to have some kind of continuity with Tempest 2000, he told the keynote audience. Plus I don't want to have to always worry about who owns the rights to the name Tempest, he notes as one of the reasons for ditching the shooter IP.
