BeefJack writes: Back in the day Smash TV was the game to have, its re-release on XBLA only proved that time has been more than kind to the twin stick shooter. And with our generations urge to remake everything it wouldn't be long before we were looking at the next Smash TV, only with those Playdoh looking graphics applied to it. Mark Turmell, programmer on the original Smash TV stated that before the title hit the fan, he had got as far as the programming stage on the sequel/remake. Now word has it that this version will indeed see a release, eventually as he is certain it will rise again.

Encouraged by the success of Live Arcade, Microsoft is planning to bring some of its downloadable games to retail. Xbox chief Peter Moore is pushing to extend the Live Arcade brands to retail, arguing internally that original games like Geometry Wars, retro hits like Smash TV and casual games like Hardwood Hearts will extend Xbox 360's appeal to non-hardcore audiences.
