Is the next Silent Hill a first-person shooter? The internet sure as hell thinks so right now, and debate is already raging on sites from Destructoid to GameGrep to 1up to Kotaku to relyonhorror about whether the change would be good or bad for the series. It certainly seems believable; the series has been trending toward action for some time now, with games like Silent Hill: Homecoming and Silent Hill: The Arcade trading slow-burn fear for sudden scares and accurate gunplay. But is there really any meat to this story, or is everyone getting worked up over nothing?
HellDescent writes: Konami has just announced that a next-gen console version of Silent Hill is in the works. The announcement comes from an event in Frankfurt, Germany. Not much detail is given but Konami states that they are working with a new developer and not Double Helix. What does that mean? We aren't sure yet, but with Shattered Memories fairly high reviews and critical acclaim we sure hope the developer is Climax. Most likely they are after that recent job posting on GameIndustry.biz. They have proven that they can get the job done very well....
Konami has confirmed to Gamer.nl that there's a new Silent Hill game in the making. Aside from a short teaser/trailer and the fact that it's not developed by Silent Hill: Homecoming developer Double Helix, little is known about the new title.
HellDescent writes: In a recent job posting by Climax UK we see that the company is looking for a Narrative Designer to guide the very same team that made Silent Hill: Shattered Memories...
HellDescent writes: Akira Yamaoka may have left Konami after more than ten years to seek new experiences but he will return to the Silent Hill franchise if asked. Many assumed that because he left Konami he would never be able to work on another one of their games. Which is definitely not true.
Screenwriter Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida are going back to the haunted town of Silent Hill. Both have now signed on to pen the 2nd film based on the cult classic Silent Hill series. After lukewarm reviews of the first film and fan outrage at the deviation from source material, we can only hope Avary and Hadida will take some more time with this one. We believe it can be done, but it just needs the right dedication and research. The 2nd film will be moving from paper to reel after the release of Resident Evil: Afterlife. We hope to see more psychological fear and less Pyramid Head booty.
