Project Sylpheed

Developed exclusively for Xbox 360 and produced by Square Enix (they also do something called Final Fantasy), Project Sylpheed is billed as a colorful arcade-style space combat game, which sounds about right to us. You can find out for yourself, with a demo on Marketplace. Square says, "If the beautifully animated characters and environments don't catch your eye, piloting the fully weapon-customizable fighter ship through exhilarating battles with swarms of enemy ships and immense vessels

If you've gotten your hands on the Project Sylpheed demo that dropped earlier today, you may be happy to hear that the release date is less than a month away. Mark your calendars, as it'll be heading towards store shelves on July 10th. Also, the MSRP is a nice $39.99, which is interesting. Hopefully that's not going to strike gamers as an indication of the quality or quantity of content in the game. If you played the demo, do you think a forty dollar price point fits the bill?

Microsoft just released a brand new demo on the American and European Xbox Live Marketplace. It's a demo from the space shooter Project Sylpheed from Square Enix. The game has been in stores in Japan since last year but the exclusive Xbox 360 game will be released by the end of this month in America and Europe as well. The demo contains one singleplayer mission wich should give you a quick taste of the space shooting experience created by Square Enix. The demo weighs just over 600MB and is available for download as of today. The full version of the game will be in stores June 29th in America and Europe.

Summer is a notoriously slow time for game news and releases; when everyone is talking about something as poor as Spider-Man 3, you know you're in trouble. Microsoft has a plan, though: dump three games developed in Japan on the same day, June 29. If nothing else it'll be good for a story (ahem) and it will show that Japan hearts the 360. It's a stretch, but it's the summer. What can we expect to see?

Square Enix's popular Xbox360 space shooter, Project Sylpheed, is coming to America. After Forever Fantasy posted rumors about the game a few months ago, QJ.net and Siliconera report that Project Sylpheed is indeed coming to American shores. Here's what their short entry had to say about it: After a breakfast roundtable discussion with some of the crew from Microsoft, I pulled Shane Kim, Vice President of Microsoft Game Studios, aside and asked about the fate of Project Sylpheed. He revealed that Microsoft is indeed publishing Square-Enix's/Game Arts' shooter, Project Sylpheed. According to Shane Kim, the release of the game is scheduled for sometime this year. No official release date has been announced yet, though.

In one of IGN's recent Mailbags, one of the IGN editors made a throwaway comment that should be of interest to any other space shooter fans looking for something to fill the void on their Xbox 360s. In response to a reader question about Square-Enix licensing the Unreal Engine for future development, this sentence was nestled deep within. Project Sylpheed, by way, is coming to the US and Microsoft is publishing it -- though I am not sure it uses the UT engine. Well, I'd say that's good news! The game, developed by Game Arts and SETA was released in Japan last September to a cool reception from Famitsu (29/40) but seems to have been a hit with fans. It's reminiscent of the old PlayStation series Colony Wars, but with extra anime flavor and prettier explosions.

Microsoft have released a list of games that will be featuring at this year's TGS. There are not many surprises, apart from the omission of the game everyone wants to see: Halo 3. There are also a couple of games I have not heard of, such as Super Robot Taisen XO, so it will be interesting to see exactly what that turns out to be. Of course, it could be a Japanese title, since the event is in Japan, and might be an attempt to try and sell more 360s to the unwanting Japanese public. Square-Enix has confirmed that a video of highly anticipated PlayStation 3 title Final Fantasy XIII will be shown at the Tokyo Game Show later this month. Speaking to Eurogamer, a spokesperson said it was highly likely that the video will contain previously unseen footage, as will a trailer for FFXIII Versus. PS2 title Dawn of Mana will be playable at the event, alongside Project Sylpheed for Xbox 360, FFIII for DS and FFXI for the PS2 and 360. Other games on show will include Chocobo Magic Picture Book and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker, both for the DS.

Square-Enix has announced its lineup for the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, which is being held from September 22 until September 24 in Makuhari Messe via Chiba, Japan.
