The Carolina Hurricanes' Eric Staal has been chosen by EA to be the cover boy for the latest edition of their popular videogame hockey franchise, NHL 08. At just 23 years of age, Staal has notched 75 goals over the last two seasons, with 100 points in 2006 alone.

Electronic Arts would be wise to buy 2K Sports, or so says industry analyst Michael Pachter for Wedbush Morgan Securities. The suggestion came amid the move from Wedbush downgrading Take-Two Interactive's stock from hold to sell Friday. Take-Two Interactive owns 2K Sports as a subsiderary. It is clear to us that Take-Two's sports business would have tremendous value to EA, as it would give EA a monopoly on football, basketball, baseball, and hockey, Pachter said. His analysis concluded that EA might purchase 2K Sports for as much as $200 million dollars, but he noted, It is arguable that EA would benefit by as much as $1 billion if it were to obtain an exclusive; this does not mean that it is willing to pay $1 billion.

Not to be outdone, a demo for NHL 2K7 has hit the Xbox Live Marketplace a day after the demo for NHL 07 went up. This demo is also far larger, at 1.01 GBs, so maybe it is a full game and not the shootout only demo of from yesteday.

Xbox Live members can now download a free demo for 'NHL '07' from the Xbox Live Marketplace. This demo is available in all regions.

There is a big confussion at this point, there are two versions of a story, one that says YES and the other proves NO. So basicly all the gamers are a bit lost in the scenario. The yes part comes from Electronic Arts, which said on its official Web site the following: NHL 07 is right around the corner but why wait? The Xbox 360 playable demo is live on the 360 Marketplace now! Fire up your Xbox 360 and download the NHL 07 demo before it's available in stores. Now, there the big catch... The demo wasn't up on the Marketplace as of press time - and the no part kicked in. But this is not the first time a mistake like this occures. Same thing happen at the end of June, when the demo for the Xbox 360 shooter Prey was already late.

Today, EA Sports released information on their site about the upcoming Xbox 360 demo of NHL 07 to hit the Marketplace. EA stated that a demo was already up, but there wasn't a demo in sight. The news was quickly taken down.

Break out the headphones NHL fans! EA announced it's soundtrack lineup for the upcoming title NHL 07 today and it is going to rock! EA has set the benchmark regarding videogame soundtracks for a long time and this latest reaches beyond anything they have put together before...

EA Sports dropped dual videos on us today featuring more puck play from NHL 07. Each teaser focuses on a team, either the St. Louis Blues or the Florida Panthers, and you can clearly make out #12 Olli Jokinen in the Florida video. Whether or not you'll be able to bury the business end of your hockey stick in an opponent's neck remains to be seen, but watch the videos (by clicking on the movies tab above) and decide for yourself if anything qualifies as high sticking.
