This post-apocalyptic, survival-horror, real-fantasy setting, first-person-shooter may be high concept (and full of hyphens), but it looks frighteningly promising.

Below is a list of things that somewhat brought down the game for me. (Remember this might just bother me or anyone) I also have a smaller than average TV
Some human enemies took to many bullets to the face. The font was sometimes hard to read, especially red lettering in weapon shops. When you brought up your journal the objectives were hard to read. There were a few annoying parts like the amoeba attack. Nightvision goggles made it too bright. Grenades were hard to use because you had to let the timer run down a bit before you threw it so the enemies couldnt run half a mile away before they detonated. I had a hard time figuring out how the gas gage on your watch worked mine would never be past yellow. And how hard it was to tell if you were sneaking or not because sometimes you could stand right infront of someone with yellow LED but others would see you from very far away with green LED. Turrets were hard to aim sometimes.
There were a few other minor problems with the game but I still think this game shouldnt get a 9 I believe it should get a 10 because it was quite an Amazing game.
This game deserves 9 across the board. Very well executed game. I took one of review's comments and decided to bring it to this page as well because it tryely describe in detail the main intention of this type of game.
TxTotally - wrote "Really fun and unique game. The shooting mechanics would be a big problem if that was what the game was focused on but it is not. This game is all about atmosphere and an immersive quality caused by no indicators or hud to let you know ahead of time what to do with the gasmask for instance. Instead you have to listen to subtle things like your characters breathing and the flashlight gradually dimming to cue you to change your filters or charge your batteries. I highly recommend Metro 2033 to anyone who loves games like Bioshock and is not so worried about the shooting but more interested in a unique world and atmosphere that sucks you in. This is not CoD and you are not a special forces bada** so the gunplay actually fits the concept of the story and your character. I have played about halfway through and I actually stopped because I do not want the experience to end. These kinds of games are rare in their new fresh feeling that comes from feeling like you have never played anything quite like this."
The story of this game was treated with care and attention. Everything from pacing of the story to the mood to environment of game world as a whole truly worked perfectly.
I've played with their other game S.T.A.L.K.E.R and theres a lot of similarities between the two. But one difference in stalker is in 1 hr of gameplay there's 15 mins of magic/quality experience.. but with Metro2033 entire game was Deep in immersive journey.
I haven't experienced in a game since Half Life 2.. and that was decades ago!
Well, I don't know if it deserves a 9, that's a little high, but it is a fun game...if a bit unoriginal.
Playing through this it reminded me of sooo many other games. It is basically a mock-up of different parts of really awesome games. Which you'd think would make it in itself awesome, but, it's really just average. Which is kind of disappointing.
Games Metro reminded me of: Fallout 3 Gears of War/Gow2 Legendary Dead space Fear/Fear2 Far cry 2 Resistance
And others I forgot.
It was a very short game, and seemingly unbalanced. Some parts were "throw controller at telivision" frusterating, and some were almost too easy. The story was okay, but nothing memorable. I never was able to save up enough bullets to buy anything decent at the shops, and had to rely on whatever I found or was given to me. Bullets seem like a ridiculous thing to use as currency, especially in a game were a lot of shooting goes on. You are forced to either use all your bullets and live, or conserve them and die...A LOT. The graphics could have been a lot better, and it was really sad seeing a scene towards the end where they so obviously used flat shadows running across the scene, instead of fully 3d monsters. And the 3d fully colored and animated ones would pop out of the herd for you to shoot at. That may have been acceptable 10 years ago, but now? No, no. We cannot be fooled by moving 1-pixel deep moving shadows. Uh-uh. We are not five. Please, don't be cheap.
I payed 65 dollars for this game, and I feel a bit ripped off. It was worth maybe 10 or 15. I can already tell this will be one of those games whose value plummets very fast. In couple months I wouldn't be suprised to see it new for around 20$...
Too bad I have a new *no getting rid of games, EVER* policy, or I would be selling it.
I would give this game about a 6 or 7. For what its worth.
If the waves made by BioShock are still rippling within the industry, Metro 2033 may be the first game to wash ashore. The setup: In 2011, a worldwide nuclear catastrophe decimated civilization. Moscow citizens retreated to the tubes, building a network of city-states along the underground subways to avoid the surface, where radiation spawned breeds of psychic supermutants: sedan-sized bats and rats, hulking ogres, and ghostly anomolies.
