Final Fantasy XIII

Also known as: Final Fantasy 13, FFXIII, FF13

Ladies and gentlemen, I am about to ruin your day. Not that this staggering, eight-minute stop-motion epic from Counter 656 Productions is in anyway bad, you understand. No, the problem is that it's so good that nothing else you see, hear or experience in any capacity for the next 24 hours will measure up. Basically, write off today after you've seen this and go to bed. If your boss/teachers/parole officer complains, just show them the video. They'll understand.*

Look, we know a lot of people collect video games, and a lot of those people tend to think they can make a pretty good stack of cash from unloading it on eBay. But internet, we ask you, is this freakishly awesome Final Fantasy collection really worth $15,000?

Thai seller Undkodlor – whom is in good standing, feedback wise – is trying to do just that. His eBay sale includes more...

Good news for fans of Final Fantasy XIII. It appears that Square Enix has just called dibs on the domain name ‘finalfantasy13-2game.com.’ The domain name was registered on January 10, 2011 and is set to expire in 2013, which suggests that we may hear an announcement for a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII sometime soon…

Is a Final Fantasy XIII-2 on the way? That's the latest scuttlebutt after a cryptic piece of artwork is being sent out to loyal Square Enix fans in Japan.

The publisher is giving away exclusive pictures of FFXIII protagonist Lightning to Japanese gamers who have achieved "ultimate" status on their Square Enix online accounts. They're hand-signed by character designer Tetsuya Nomura, who also added another little note on each piece. "She must not be forgotten."

Anyone who's played a Final Fantasy game knows that the only thing more important than saving the world from complete annihilation is collecting cards for your Tetra Master deck or finally beating that damn fisherman at Triple Triad.

Now, Square Enix has announced that it will be pairing with Hobby Japan to produce a real-world Final Fantasy trading card game that will allow fans to engage in strategic card battling without the hassle of rescuing billions of ungrateful NPCs from extinction...

There could be a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII. That's the word from Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Director Motomu Toriyama. And, if we want to get really speculatory, there's a slim chance they could already be working on it. Want the full deets, as well as their excuses for FFXIII's failure to produce any DLC? Then you know what to do.*

Tokyo Game Show might be looming just over the horizon, but not all the interesting developments on the Japanese side of the games industry are coming out of a packed-to-the-brim Tokyo Bay convention center. Earlier this month, the annual CEDEC conference was held in Yokohama, Japan. CEDEC is a conference sponsored by Japan’s Consumer Entertainment Software Association (the same group that puts on TGS) and is geared heavily toward development, much like the Game Developers Conference. Unlike GDC, however, CEDEC is considerably more low-key – though that doesn’t mean that there isn’t some interesting news flowing forth from the event...

The guardians of advertising standards in the UK - the appropriately named Advertising Standards Authority - have ruled that Square Enix misled consumers by using PlayStation 3 footage in its Final Fantasy XIII TV advert that specifically promoted the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Suck it, Snow. Team Nora is lame. Lighten up Lightning. You’re way too serious. The best Final Fantasy XIII character by far is Sazh, which is why we were very excited to find this excellent image today…

Extra extra! Hot off the presses, we’ve got the NPDs for the month of March, namely the stats on the top ten best selling games of the month and what all the consoles sold in the US as well. Looking at the list, we realize that March was a crazy month for game releases; it arguably had more AAA titles than last November.
