Gotta give the man credit; Capcom's Christian Svensson may have participated in the fastest game-related turnaround time ever. His company's latest Wii title, Spyborgs, was announced early this morning, Wii fans started pissing and moaning about it an hour or so later, and Svensson was on the scene to placate them a few hours after that. Here's a snippet of what he said:

"The initial reaction here I swear is the EXACT reaction so many of you posters had when we first revealed Zack & Wiki. Somehow, Z&W is now a poster-child title for the Wii in your eyes. Mark my words... you will feel exactly the same way about the level of quality in Spyborgs when it is done."

Capcom Producer on Zack & Wiki, Hironobu Takeshita, was interviewed last year about the game. During this interview he was asked if he sees Zack & Wiki become one of Capcom's banner franchises with sequels or if it's a one-time game only. VGB quotes his reply: "I have a lot of confidence in Zack & Wiki, and especially the foreign media [outside of Japan] seem to have a lot of hope and respect for the title. So of course it depends on how it sells, and the sales of the title, but that is something I would like to do, to turn it into a series."

It looks fantastic, plays great and represents one of the finest third party Wii games of the past year. Yet Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure has performed abysmally at retail, flying in the face of the opinion that the Wii is best platform for third parties to develop for if they want to make a quick buck.

Kotaku's Brian Crecente writes:

"Our first-ever Game of the Year awards was a pretty straight forward deal. I asked all of the writers to submit a list of three games for each category and the three that showed up most in each category made it as a finalist. Once we had the list of finalists I asked each writer to go through and order the finalists and then tallied the vote. The one with the most points was named Game of the Year, the runner-up was named Not Quite Game of the Year. The game with the most votes for Worst Game of the Year received that dubious honor."

Super Mario Galaxy won Kotaku's Overall Game of the Year award. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune came as second, it won the Not Quite Game of the Year award. (Kotaku posted the overall results as a separate post, see the link at the Alternative Sources below for more details.)

Following feverish whispering, Nintendo has confirmed that Capcom's Wii adventure, Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure, won't be sailing onto European Wiis this year.

Capcom pirate-themed puzzle adventure was originally announced as set to pillage punter's Wiis on December 7, shortly after Super Mario Galaxy. Apparently though, even pirates aren't hard enough for that and Zack and Wiki are now scheduled to climb aboard on January 18 2008

In light of Nintendo's announcement that Super Smash Bros. Brawl has been delayed until 2008, IGN's GamerMetrics analyzed the implications that this delay will have on the holiday sales of other upcoming games available for the Nintendo Wii.

According to GamerMetrics analyst Nick Williams, the resulting findings put Super Mario Galaxy at the top of the most anticipated games list. Rounding out the top three are Capcom's Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.

Game Informer rates Halo 3, Mass Effect, PGR4, Orange Box, Syphon Filter and more (News)

The newest Game Informer has just landed in stores in America and this months' issue contains some very interesting reviews of all the coming and available games. Games like Halo 3, Half Life 2: Orange Box, PGR4, Mass Effect, Syphon Filter, Ace Attorney, DiRT, Ace Combat 6, NBA Live 08, NBA 2K8, NBA 08 have all been reviewed in this months' edition.

Most noticeable scores are for Halo 3, Mass Effect and Orange Box, which have all received reviews of 9.75 given by two different editors. Ace Combat 6 and PGR 4 also did very well with a 9- for Ace Combat and a 9+ for PGR4. Syphon Filter for PSP did very well with a 9-. Two Worlds was slammed again with two disappointing reviews of a 4 and a 2. Check out all this months' reviews below.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has announced that publisher and developer Capcom has agreed to remove a common Islamic phrase from its forthcoming Wii title Zack & Wiki after receiving complaints from CAIR and others.
