Activision has been granted the rights to produce video games based on the James Bond license. MGM Interactive and EON Productions (the companies that control the digital Bond) announced a blanket deal with Activision that covers "current and next-generation consoles, PC, and handheld platforms." However, there are no specific announcements about specific consoles, software titles or stories - just the simple fact that Activision will be publishing Bond for the next eight years. Of course, ... » Read More

Everyone waiting for the Revolution's official name can finally come up for air - it's been officially dubbed Wii, as in "we." The planet Earth has expressed its confusion (or bitter hatred) over this new name, though perhaps Nintendo's statement can offer some insight: "Introducing… Wii. As in 'we.' While the code-name 'Revolution' expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else. Wii will put people ... » Read More

We've still got a few weeks to go until E3, but an early list of showcased titles has revealed one more Revolution title - currently only known as "Flight Game." Here's the straight word: "Take to the skies in a way never before experienced on any home console. Using the Revolution's 'Gesture System' built into their innovative controller, Hudson's new 'Flight Game' allows total plane control as players pilot their planes through various acrobatic flight maneuvers ranging from sky artistry to ... » Read More

Word has reached us that Polish developer Nibris has announced Sadness, a totally black and white, utterly mysterious game for Nintendo's Revolution console. We're failing to make any sense of the press release issued for the announcement, so we've published it here, in full, for your brain-fizzling delight: "Exclusive Nintendo Revolution title Sadness will be fully ... black and white! "Nibris decided to follow Nintendo's path, which definitely fights the stagnation which has occurred in ... » Read More

Nintendo's Revolution console will launch with around 20 games and will be cheaper than Xbox 360 - that's the latest news from around the Nintendo campfire according to company bigwig George Harrison. Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications, has indicated that Revolution will probably have around 20 games available when the console launches and that "maybe a third" of those will be in-house Nintendo creations. The Nintendo VP also ... » Read More

Marc Ecko, the designer behind - you guessed it - Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, has hinted that a Revolution-specific Getting Up graffiti game could be a distinct possibility. When it was suggested that the urban artwork antics of Getting Up would lend themselves perfectly to Revolution's unique controller, Ecko admitted in an interview with GameDaily.com that he was "all over it" - suggesting that some serious thought has already been given to the idea of a Revolution ... » Read More

What we thought for sure was an April Fools' joke is actually the real deal. The legendary painter of happy little trees, the late Bob Ross (or more specifically, Bob Ross Inc.), is working on software for the Revolution, Nintendo DS and PC. These titles would be developed by AGFRAG Entertainment Group. The games would obviously use Nintendo's unique interfaces to simulate brush strokes and hopefully provide an authentic Bob Ross painting experience. Despite the notable handicap of being ... » Read More

The comments from Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, that we reported earlier this week don't exclude Revolution from receiving a global launch, it seems. "The comments have been taken out of context. What he's actually saying is that we're not holding a worldwide launch just because everyone else is doing one too," a Nintendo spokesperson told industry magazine MCV. "It's just another re-iteration of the fact that we're not looking at what Sony or Microsoft are doing. Unfortunately, it ... » Read More

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has voiced his concerns over the high prices that publishers are charging for the first wave of Xbox 360 games, and claims he doesn't envision the same steep price tag being carried by Nintendo's titles for its Revolution. Speaking specifically about the US market, Iwata offered his belief that next-gen games would "cost an awful lot." While early adopters and tech-heads may currently be prepared to pay top dollar (hitting $60 a pop right now) for titles, it's ... » Read More

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has stated that Revolution, Nintendo's incoming next-gen console, won't be receiving a global launch. "We don't think it's necessary to do the simultaneous worldwide launch simply because others are doing this," said Iwata in an interview with Bloomberg. It's hardly a surprise, and not just because Nintendo has a history of taking its time with regards to western releases of both hardware and software. Global launches are a massively stressful challenge; while ... » Read More

Sorry, no groundbreaking news on the Revolution. That's what you wanted to know, right? Other than the Virtual Console announcement, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's keynote speech at the Game Developers Conference offered no screens, no movies and no further revelations concerning the one piece of hardware that's boggling minds on a daily ... » Read More

Today Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced that the Revolution's Virtual Console will not only feature titles from Nintendo's past library, but also Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx games. Of course, even hearing past the word "Sega" was difficult, as the clearly-excited crowd began to, as we like to call it, "freak the hell out." Ten years ago, Sega and Nintendo were the most bitter of rivals. You could practically start a fistfight just by trash-talking one of the consoles. Now we can all ... » Read More

Mere weeks ago, Nintendo announced that there have been more than one million unique logins for its Wi-Fi Connection service. It achieved that goal in less than four months. With such an astounding success, it's hard to believe Nintendo's stance on online gaming has, until very recently, been indifferent at best. But the company's internet presence is poised to grow even more. Much like the Nintendo DS, the upcoming Revolution console will support Wi-Fi from the get-go. You'll be able to ... » Read More

Nintendo will announce a new franchise for Revolution at the annual E3 games show this May, with the goal of creating another big success story like gaming behemoths Zelda, Mario, and Nintendogs. "This year's E3 will be Revolution's coming out party," according to Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo's executive vice president of sales and marketing. In an online interview Reggie confirmed that new franchises and "a lot of information" will be uncovered at this year's event. Reggie also revealed ... » Read More

Nintendo's done a bang up job of delivering quirky games across all genres, but for action fans, a visceral first-person shooter still hasn't made the cut. That could change with the Revolution. Ubisoft is preparing a first-person shooter for the console, and seeing as the company's recently teamed with TimeSplitters developer Free Radical, we're hoping to see a quality FPS on launch day. That genre in particular, seems to interest Nintendo. "I was a developer for many years before my current ... » Read More

Some interesting stuff here. Apparently every Revolution will have a "play control system" that will enable parents to choose which games are playable on the console. Right now we know the European system will conform Pan European Games Information (PEGI), which is the overseas equivalent of the ESRB rating system - no word on if the US version will let people lock out "T" or "M" rated games. If so, you have to wonder what types of games Nintendo may be open to with that level of optional ... » Read More

Got an HDTV? If you're sticking with Nintendo on the next console wave, it probably won't matter. The company's next console, still named Revolution, won't support the high-end 720 and 1080 resolutions of newer televisions or be the strongest gaming machine on the shelf. Late last year, Nintendo offered this official (yet automated) response to anyone who emailed the company about hardware power: "High definition graphics look fantastic, but come at a price. To shine, high definition games ... » Read More

We're already well into 2006 and people are still making resolutions. In this case it's a company, not an individual, that's promising to improve itself. Nintendo, specifically. Reggie Fils-Aime, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo of America, predicts the company's new mantra and unique hardware will propel the Revolution beyond the Xbox 360's launch period sales numbers. His interview with CNET revealed some of Nintendo's outlook for the entire year. Reggie commented ... » Read More
