Weekly sales of PS3 have almost tripled in US since the October 18 price drop, which Sony Chairman Howard Stringer describes as "the breakthrough we have been anticipating."
Sony sold over 100,000 PS3s on the week ending November 5, up from 30,000 to 40,000 in weeks preceding the price drop.
"It's a little fortuitous that the Wii is running out of hardware," he added, pointing out Nintendo's problems meeting demand in US and UK.
