Welcoming another Monday, this week's Virtual Console releases have arrived once again. They're a little on the obscure side, having never appeared in Animal Crossing, and with little to no cosplay appeal. But that doesn't mean these oldies ain't goodies. In case you didn't know, 100 Wii points is equal to one genuine American greenback. Just don't tell Canada. Their conversion is a total grift. Star Soldier - NES - 500 Wii points A benchmark in side-scrolling space shooters. Take out ... » Read More

Back in ye olde days of 8-bit gaming, we didn't have teh interwebs or in-depth FAQs to get us through hours of repetitive dungeons and mindless enemies. We had to do it all ourselves, patiently praying for a wave of cheat codes to come in the next issue of Nintendo Power. Then, after countless hours (literally, because no game would count the hours) we'd see the ending... just to view another 8-bit sunset. Seriously. Another one. How many games do you think end with a scene of the main ... » Read More

Mondays come and go, each with two to three new Virtual Console games to consider. This week's a little different though - we're getting four brand new old games, one of which is the exquisite Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (500 points). The black sheep of the Zelda world turned a few fans away upon its initial release 50 million years ago, but any Nintendo follower worth his fire flowers knows this game's a gem. Stop being a baby and embrace the Zelda II love. Why the controversy? This one ... » Read More

Joining the downloadable fray today are three extremely different styles of gaming - a simian platformer, a trashy beat 'em up and a shove-lasers-down-your-throat shooter. Can't wait to see how Nintendo ties them all together for the sake of a press release. Oh wait, this is it: "The elves mining Nintendo's vaults for classic games have unearthed three new ones to add to the Wii Shop Channel. They feature ragers, lasers and, um, monkeys not in cages. Anyway, it's unlikely that you've played ... » Read More

It's Monday morning and as usual, our inboxes contain an email from Nintendo championing the new Virtual Console releases. Today is a special case though, as NES mega-classic Ninja Gaiden (500 points) has finally appeared. If you've never taken an 8-bit Ryu Hayabusa through level after level of missile-toting thugs and dive-bombing birds, now's the time. It may be one of the toughest games around (a precedent that the Xbox and PS3 versions seem content to follow), but that doesn't affect our ... » Read More

It's been quite a rollercoaster ride for Virtual Console updates the past several weeks. One Monday we all woke up to Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV and that was it. Is Nintendo trying to disappoint us or something? But then to counter that sad, sickly update, today we're getting Gradius III, Wonder Boy in Monster World and Battle Lode Runner, three games that are all worth picking up. What a great way to start the week, eh? For those who weren't alive when Bush was on his way out to make ... » Read More

Games for the NEO GEO and MSX formats will be made available to download onto Wii as Nintendo expands its Virtual Console service. The update, which is currently only confirmed for the Japanese Virtual Console, is due to be made in spring. Nintendo had previously announced that the MSX was on its way to the Virtual Console, and Nintendo's official Japanese website has confirmed that two games, Eggy and Aleste, will be among the first available for the format. MSX games will cost 800 Wii ... » Read More

Nintendo's Virtual Console releases have been so damn good as of late, it's almost enough to make us forget he haven't got an actual Mario game yet. Well, not really. Where art thou O' Overall-clad one? Here's what's in store this week: Mario Kart 64 (1,000 Wii points) Headlining today's offerings is arguably the best in Nintendo's racing series. Plus, the asking price is less than all those other krappy-kart knock-offs currently available on other systems. It's been too long since we've ... » Read More

Pawn your Dreamcast or sell your POGs on eBay. Just get rid of whatever useless junk you can to scrape together 800 points and download one of the best games ever made. It doesnt matter that you already have it or havent quite finished Twilight Princess yet. Everyone's doing ... » Read More

Since Nintendo has only seen fit to bestow us with titles like Baseball and Urban Champion, it's nice to see Sega showing the Wii's Virtual Console a little old school lovin' in early 2007. The House of Sonic has provided us with its first quarter list of downloadable content. On the schedule you've got some obscure titles like Bonanza Brothers, Bio-Hazard Battle, and Gain Ground. But the inclusion of Streets of Rage and Comix Zone should leave Genesis fans with outstretched arms, making ... » Read More
