"I think it sold lower than our expectations but on the other hand it was a really unique game, I have to say," Miyamoto told ONM in an interview that will be published in issue 50 of Official Nintendo Magazine. 'And also, even today, we are receiving several different offers from people in the field of music education, so as far as Wii Music is concerned, I think is still has great potential. And in the future there might be some developments.'"

Contrary to what you might think, E3 isn’t all brilliant new games, booth babes and free beer. A lot of the time the biggest, best and most exciting games event on the planet is actually as dull and hope-dashing as a Sony graph-led press conference. And whether it’s dealing with console delays or waiting in a line (with enough BO to erode titanium) to play Wii Sports, the history of the event has been riddled with letdowns. So to ...

Wii games will be on sale throughout the day today (3/31/09), as Amazon.com's featured Gold Box and Lightning Deals. The Gold Box Wii game is Wii Music, which is $29.99. A pretty good savings of $20 for a Nintendo game. It's available while supplies last. Throughout the day, more Wii games will go on sale as part of the Wii Lightning Deals. Be on the lookout on the hour, since these tend to go fast (depending on the game of course).

Here are the hours that each Lightning Deal begins, along with a hint of the game:

6:00 AM PDT - In the Garden of Weeden, honey, don't you know that I love you?
10:00 AM PDT - Start training now.
2:00 PM PDT - The Milky Way's got nothing in comparison.
3:00 PM PDT - Give me a W! Give me an I! Give me another I! What does that spell?
6:00 PM PDT - That's so cute! The animals think they're people!

Hmm... could Animal Crossing: City Folk be the 6pm deal?
Many songs' sales have more than doubled after release in one of the games, and well-known bands have started lining up to provide new music direct to the game makers. Now record labels - noticing what they are missing, and struggling as compact disc sales tumble - are looking for a bigger piece of the action."
Two years after its release, shoppers continue to have a hard time finding it in stores. One might be tempted to say the console can do no wrong, except that's not exactly true. Wii Music, the much-hyped game from renowned designer Shigeru Miyamoto, is considered by some to be, well, a bit of a flop.

Live musical performances have always been a fun part of the holidays. This year, Nintendo will be making spirits bright at family destinations and retail locations across the country with bands of street performers demonstrating Wii Music.

Now through the end of the month, the family trio of music-makers will entertain shoppers by turning the Wii console into a musical instrument with Wii Music, the new music game from Nintendo. Wii Music contains more than 50 songs and lets players use more than 60 different instruments to make their music, from melodic steel drums to soaring trumpets. To play, players simply use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to make the same motions they would with a real instrument: Strum a guitar or pound the keys of a piano. The game challenges players to transform improvised notes into great music, while enabling the freedom to customize your song, instrument, genre, tempo and stage.
Though, the same cannot be said for the third brother in the family, Wii Music. Reported NPD numbers say that Wii Music sold more than 50,000 units, which isn't exactly terrible. However, compared to Wii Fit, Wii Music has garnered a less successful reception. Nintendo wholeheartedly believes in the game, however, and are more than willing to defend the game's sales...
Wii Music will be landing on South African shelves before Christmas so make sure you don't miss out on Nintendo's latest musical innovation because it's sure to fill many stockings this festive season.

It felt like something of a covert operation, the two Wii Music discs having been flown in especially for the launch that morning and returning back to Europe the very next day. We were given the chance to try our hand (and ears) at the game so make sure you read our preview to find out more about what makes it tick.
Apparently, it's not so tricky for Run DMC-er Joseph Simmons (aka Reverend Run) to rock a beat on Nintendo's Wii Music. He even gets his kids into the groove and it goes from DJ turn-tables to beat-boxing. It really looks quite creative. Wiki-wiki-what!?

Gamerdeals.net writes:

"'Jumping the Shark':

The phrase refers to a scene in a three-part episode of the American TV series, Happy Days, first broadcast on September 20, 1977. In the third of the three parts of the "Hollywood" episode, Fonzie (Henry Winkler), wearing swim trunks and his trademark leather jacket, jumps over a penned-in shark while water skiing.

Jumping the shark is a colloquialism used by TV critics and fans to denote that point in a TV show or movie series' history where the plot veers off into absurd story lines or out-of-the-ordinary characterizations. In the process of undergoing these changes, the TV or movie series loses its original appeal. Shows that have "jumped the shark" are typically deemed to have passed their peak.

The phrase has been used more recently outside the realm of popular culture, representing anything that has reached its peak and has turned mediocre."

"Nintendo's VP of Corporate Affairs, Denise Kaigler, says the company isn't competing against Guitar Hero and Rock Band with its toddler-friendly overly-casual Wii Music. She explains to GameDaily that the company is trying to make "enriching opportunities for consumers" and have them create something unique. Yes, tempo creation through waggle is certainly unique.

Kaigler tells the site that Wii Music will have the "power to inspire kids to develop an interest in music." Well, as GayGamer discovered, it sure didn't inspire the media attending E3 this year. We're frightened sure that Wii Music will find an audience somewhere, even if it is just the rugrats roaming the great plains of the playpen."
But how can we possibly sum up the mass of data in one easy-to-digest article? Easy. We convert all the game data into sexy pie charts and give you the whole show in graphic form. Go on, try a slice. ...

Destructoid writes: "One of the games Nintendo really wanted to sell at their press conference was Wii Music. Nintendo's game of invisible instruments seems to pale in comparison to the more competitive music games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Today, Shigeru Miyamoto talked to multiplayerblog about why consumers should want to own Wii Music over the new music offerings from Harmonix and Neversoft:

'What I find what is fun about music [games] is when you really get into a good rhythm and you have a great time performing. But the challenge is then, how do you do that in a way where people don't have to worry about hitting the wrong note or making a mistake? So, that's really been our focus with designing Wii Music.'

So, the fact that Wii Music will provide us with the opportunity to act like we're playing a game is the reason why we should gravitate towards the title? I'm sorry, but the idea seems to be lost on me. I realize every game doesn't have to be competitive, but at the same rate, there has to be something present that is more engrossing than our own imaginations. I understand the sentiment when relating it to the uber-casual gamer, but for everyone? I guess we'll have to see later when we get our hands on it."

Japanese Web site Ruliweb.com presented new details about Nintendo's upcoming title Wii Music.

According to the report, the gameplay in Wii Music will revolve around 'Play Sessions.' Up to six characters can participate in a session, four of which can be human-controlled. The game will feature both old and new music from Nintendo's internal sound team. Replay options for each session should also be available.

Players will have access to the conductor baton and over 40 instruments, such as the Folk Guitar, Bass Guitar, Trumpet, Xylophone and Maracas. Different instruments will feature different controls. The Wiire has more details.

Wii Music currently carries a tentative 2008 release date for all territories.
Still, what this month's Nintendo conference did give us was a set-in-stone 40 instruments (guitars, drums, bass, trumpets, folk guitars, er, maracas), further glimpses at how the controls work and the sight of the AI supporting you on ...
