Not yet released in the US, Wii Fit has already sold millions in Japan since December and over 338,000 copies in the UK since its release two weeks ago.
With Wii Fit encouraging gamers around the world to get up and active and selling like nobody's business in the process, Sony and Microsoft bigwigs, understandably, may be getting a bit hot under the collar.
The Wii may be experiencing another kind of hardware shortage. Wii Fit's launch day is a little over a week away (May 19, 2008), and it's getting tougher to find online for pre-ordering. See where it's temporarily sold out and where you may still be able to find a pre-order.
No doubt as a part of their huge marketing push, Nintendo is preparing to launch Wii Fit to the masses on May 19th with an all-day event (well, as all-day as 8am-5pm can be, anyway), not at the usual Nintendo World Store location, but rather in Central Park. In addition, the event will double as a celebration of May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.
In a society obsessed with image, could Wii Fit's BMI measurements mistakenly be putting more pressure on impressionable young players to become anxious over their weight?
A number of parents have expressed concerns over Nintendo creating bad body images after a concerned family member complained that Wii Fit labeled her relative overweight."My [relative] came round this weekend and we let her play on our Wii Fit," a member of the DISBoards wrote. "We have all laughed and joked about being told that we're fat and need to lose weight but I was gobsmacked when it told her that she is ...

Kotaku writes: "Online shoppers seem to have fed frenziedly on Wii Fit at Amazon.com, up for pre-order as of April 15, with the retailer already claiming its allocation of the Nintendo fitness title is already at capacity. The site says it is "actively seeking more of this product from suppliers" and we suspect that the impression that one will be able to get their hands on the game/non-game day one-as we foolishly suspected would be possible with the Wii itself-is looking less and less likely".
In something of an unprecidented show of support for the Nintendo Wii and specifically Wii Fit, Woolworths stores in the UK have renamed themselves 'WiiWorths' and plastered their storefronts in advertising for Nintendo's exercise-based game.
While Wii Fit is already available in Japan and Europe, it isn't supposed to launch in South Africa until this coming Monday, May 05. However, it appears that a certain Toys 'R Us outlet in the country is offering the game to consumers days before it should.
This is a bit of a strange one, and something that Wii Fit Chat can't see many consumers agreeing with. It seems that retailer GameStop is charging a non-refundable handling fee of $9.99 USD when purchasing Wii Fit online, bumping the price up from $89.99 to $99.99.
A new survey conducted about the Wii has revealed that 20% of 16 to 24-year olds questioned said that they would stop going to the gym in favour of sweating it out while playing the Nintendo Wii, which can only be positive for the upcoming release of Wii Fit in the US.
Nintendo of America has stocked select retail outlets across the country with a new Wii Fit promotional booklet and DVD insert designed to explain the concept and the gameplay mechanics to those still unfamiliar with them.
One full day post Grand Theft Auto IV release, and we see that Wii Fit is still at the top of the Amazon USA Bestseller list. Granted, if you combined the Xbox 360 and PS3 game sales, they would certainly trump Wii Fit... but this is crazy insane...
DarkZero writes: "The latest charts in the UK have been made available by ChartTrack, and it has been revealed Wii Fit has stormed to the top of the charts after 3 days of sales since last Friday. Two other Wii games, Mario Kart Wii, and Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games followed in second and third place respectively. The PS3 exclusive that is Gran Turismo 5 Prologue came in a strong fourth place.
It looks as if Wii Fit is well on its way to becoming the fastest selling Wii game ever with retailers telling Pocket-lint that Friday was a blockbusting day for the new fitness game.
Chris Greenhough reports:
According to UK retailer Woolworths, Wii Fit has been selling 90 copies for each minute that passes by. A good number of people also waited outside the store in the morning to be one of the first to purchase the game. Although not every store has sold out of copies, it is expected that many stores will run out of stock as soon as today, Wii Fit launched in Europe just a few hours ago, and has already been released in Japan. American gamers can get their hands on a copy on May 19th.
America may be one of the last territories to be receiving Wii Fit, but one humorous additions that will be exclusive to the North American version of the game is the ability to weigh your pet. Gamers who play Wii Fit will receive a message that they can weigh their pet by weighing themselves with the pet first, and then alone. The difference between these two values will give the player the weight of their pet. Miyamoto originally planned for this feature to be in the Japanese version of Wii Fit, but time constraints forced the development team to scratch out the idea.
