"Filipino site GameOPS found that pirates are up to their old tricks again, copying GameCube games onto DVD discs and packaging them as Wii releases. Titles like Luigi's Mansion, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition are advertised with new covers that've been rebranded with Wii logos and boxart elements. Unlike official GameCube-to-Wii ports, these don't even feature tacked-on waggle controls!"
It's becoming increasingly difficult to get excited about Tony Hawk. Every year we get the same game with crazy new goals and some gimmicky new ability that's supposed to make everything feel different. Usually it doesn't and Tony Hawk's Obligatory Release ends up getting tossed away until the next one comes. It's this continuous cycle that makes Downhill Jam actually stand out from the mainline series.

The open worlds of previous games are gone. No more roaming about Los Angeles or abandoned ...
Tuesday 31 October 2006
This Wii-specific Tony Hawk's arcade racer is less Pro Skater, more punk squabbler - a Wii-mote-steered party crasher targeted at instant appeal instead of its big brother's skate satisfaction. We had the chance to pick it up and play to see how pick-up-and-play it was, and found out that it's still not quite as easy as rolling off a hill.

Even with the controls sensibly bunched around the Wii-mote's D-pad and 1 and 2 buttons, you'll need to put in some tutorial time to ...
Playing Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam for Wii, it's hard to fight the feeling that it's the total opposite of the Tony Hawk you know and love. It's a race game at heart; using the Wii remote couldn't be more different than the typical Tony control we're used to; and it only has one real skater. Maybe that's why it came off as so refreshing at Activision's next-gen hands-on event in Santa Monica, CA.

Wednesday 4 October 2006
New images of Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam on Wii - the more cartoonish, arcadey speed-run little brother to the main series - have arrived, and you can coast on up to the images tab to check them out.

It's almost a companion title to Sega's Sonic and the Secret Rings, with both games going for big speed, big sky and instantly appreciable tilt control - although Downhill Jam's cast have more acrobatic tricks up their fashionably long sleeves than our blue ...
In between all the Tokyo Game Show news, we've netted a new Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam video that helps explain the game's departure from the main series. As you know, it's all downhill racing and doesn't really focus much on any story elements or wide-open environments - instead, you're only concern is getting to the finish line by any means necessary.
Some of the Wii games scheduled to make the tour include Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Wii Sports, Excite Truck, WarioWare: Smooth Moves and Activision's Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam.
Our first exposure to Downhill Jam's hilly raceways left us confused and concerned. The open environments were gone, replaced by all-downhill tracks that focused more on speed than busting out tricks. Upgradeable skaters had also disappeared, removing the satisfaction of slowly customizing your own character throughout the game. But perhaps worst of all, simply pulling off the signature Tony flips, grabs and grinds was a pain, thanks to only three buttons on the Wii controller - one of which ...
Monday 7 August 2006
We've managed to lay our hands on a demonstration of Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam that shows just how the Wii skater will handle with the machine's motion-sensing controller. You can see the remote-tilting action for yourself by clicking the movies tab above.

The game - which has more in common with SSX than previous Tony Hawk's outings - features a series of downhill races set in locations spread across the globe and control of the skater is achieved using Wii's wizzy wand ...
The site, yet to be launched, clarifies some key information about the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for the Wii:
* You need a wireless router. No mention of wired connections or the USB connector
* Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Here titled as Super Smash Bros Dojo) and Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam are confirmed for Wi-Fi support.
* The Friends Code System remains.
After years of releasing basically the same game over and over with just a few new features each time, people started to get frustrated. They needed something new, something different and something that would give them a reason to get back on the board.
Hot on the back wheels of today's DS shots, here's a few new screens from Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam for Wii. You may be relieved to know that none of them feature pictures of hip, smiling people waving Wii controllers.

The visuals are more in line with the traditional Tony games, unlike the cel-shaded DS installments. What's not so traditional, of course, is the control - you'll be wielding the Wii remote to guide your skater, as with Excite Truck, by holding it sideways in both hands. The basic premise of most Wii games is 'simplicity'. Therefore the trick-heavy, fully customizable Tony Hawk series may not be the best way to introduce people to the motion-sensing Wii wand. That's where Downhill Jam comes into play - it's a dead simple, all-downhill racer that's easy enough to pick up, but may still be hanging on to too many elements of the regular series.

So you're a punky skater kid rolling down the absurdly hilly streets of San Francisco. The wand is ...
Extreme sports racing is coming to Wii this autumn, with Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, an SSX-style skateboard race game designed especially for Nintendo's next-gen hardware, and we've seen it in action – just click the image tab above and take a look at some fresh new screens to get an idea for yourself.

Downhill Jam will make use of the Wii controller's motion sensitive features. You'll have to tilt the controller left or right to turn, and use a shaking action to ...
We all knew there was going to be a new Tony Hawk game announced at E3, but how about a Wii- and DS-exclusive title that bucks everything the series has done before? Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam puts you on a one-way, downhill track and focuses solely on fast-paced, teeth-grinding speed.

You play as Hawk or one of nine other grungy-esque characters, cutting through such geography-rich regions like San Francisco, Hong Kong and Rio de Janeiro, usually vying for a first-placed run. The Wii remote is ...
When Wii hits the shops at the end of the year, it'll play host to next-gen versions of both Tony Hawk's and Call of Duty, according to publisher Activision.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam and Call of Duty 3 are set for release in autumn, and will feature in the launch line-up for Nintendo's newly rechristened console. However, despite hitting several current and next-gen systems, Call of Duty 3 won't be striking a beachhead on PC.

This info was beamed to our eyes at ...
