EA Expanding EA Sports Active, Confirms Madden Arcade (News)

EA Sports said Tuesday that EA Sports Active sold 1.8 million units during its June quarter, making the game the publisher's "best-selling Wii title ever."

The company intends to maintain the high sales momentum through unconventional marketing and distribution that saw the game advertised on QVC and sold at Dick's Sporting Goods, for example. The success has also prompted EA to release an expansion for the game later this year.

"Given the success of EA Sports Active, we've decided to launch an expansion pack this holiday. We are using development using from our tennis team on our EA Sports Active franchise," said Peter Moore, president of the publisher's EA Sports label.

Well, the results are in. Today, in New York's Times Square, Jimmy Fallon played a round of golf against Tiger Woods. Not real golf, mind you, but Tiger Woods 10 on the Nintendo Wii. In a surprise turn, Fallon actually bested the golfing legend, beating him at his own game.

EA Sports' Tiger Woods series has generated more than $500,000,000 in sales in the US to date.

The figure was revealed by NPD analyst Anita Frazier's Twitter feed, and comes in the wake of the latest release in the best-selling franchise, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10.

"Tiger Woods video games have sold over half a billion $ at US retail life-to-date," said Frazier.
