The second-to-last mission in the original StarCraft's Terran campaign gives you a strange directive: while you're supposed to wipe out every trace of the hyper-advanced Protoss aliens, you're specifically ordered not to bother the swarming, bestial Zerg situated right near your base. What happens once you carry out those orders affected us in a way we never knew a real-time strategy game could. ...
Not so much a cohesive game as a series of "episodes" with co-op play in mind, The Simpsons Game is nonetheless consistently funny, occasionally inspired, not too taxing and diverse. A bit like your average episode of the TV show then, which is why this is head and shoulders above the spin-off games that have clouded Springfield's finest down the years.

It starts with a typically bizarre Homer dream involving chocolate rabbits, and from there goes all post-modern when Bart ...
An EA producer has said that Rockstar "spazzed out like little babies" in reaction to the GTA parody in The Simpsons Game.

The comedy spoof level, titled Grand Theft Scratchy, didn't go down too well with GTA publisher Rockstar, who forced EA to rename the level; now called the not-so-clever 'Mob Rules' stage.

Speaking on GameTrailer's Game Head program, Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman explained where the controversy began:

Apparently Rockstar were among a number of game companies that werent happy with the way The Simpsons Game, out for 360, Wii, PS2, DS 2 November, was parodying their creations and wanted somethings removed from the final code.

In an excusive interview with CVG the lead designer, Greg Rizzer, stated “we've had to pull stuff from the game”. But it seems, apart from renaming the trailer on the official site from Grand Theft Scratchy to the less catchy Mob Rules, not ...
We've played a fair few Simpsons games in our time. It goes with the job - there have been so many they're hard to avoid, like the Army Men games, or Dynasty Warriors (just considerably better). But none have really gone down as classics in the Videogaming Bible of all Things Great (if such a thing existed obviously).

It looks like this might be about to change, however, with a game that comes from both the company who (arguably) knows most about videogames, EA, and the people who (unarguably) ...
We've already discovered that EA were nudged into cutting parts of The Simpsons Game, as reported by lead designer Greg Rizzer, but it seems there's been plenty of mickey-taking left in too - most humourously an Achievement for the 360 version called Hot Coffee.

Now, wait. This isn't an unlockable cartoon version of that most infamous of GTA scandals. Instead, it's awarded for completing a timed challenge in the Rockstar-poking level of The Simpsons Game titled Grand Theft ...
EA's forthcoming The Simpsons game parodies 30 years of videogaming and gaming IPs, but there are games companies that have refused to see the funny side of things.

"I was always under the impression that when you do parody, it's a sign of respect... If we make fun of Grand Theft Auto, we're not going to hurt the sales of Grand Theft Auto... But yeah, we've definitely had some reactions - we've had to pull stuff from the game", The Simpsons lead designer Greg Rizzer revealed ...
So there we were, lounging in the bar of our hotel in Santa Monica, sipping daiquiris and enjoying the live musical noodlings of the Cross Heart Jazz Experience when David Silverman, the director of The Simpsons Movie, strolls in with a honking great tuba slung over his shoulder and joins the band for a head-nodding, chin-stroking jazzmatazz of sweet, sweet ear sex.
Electronic Arts just announced their tie-in title for The Simpsons Movie, and the development team hopes to create "the most original game ever." We'll look past the fact that it's already culling ideas from a licensed property and just continue on with the news.
