One is something you do to kill time, the other is the ultimate expression of the human spirit and emotion yank yank blah blah blah. Game music is every bit as moving, long-lasting and inventive as the so-called real deal. It’s also such a relatively new form of music that its entire history has unfolded within our own lifetimes ...

Blockbuster is offering up some good deals on video games in its stores. You may want to head out to your local Blockbuster to see prices on not only their previously rented (used) games, but their new (sealed) ones. Blockbuster's used games may be rough (no instructions, scuffed up discs, generic boxes), but there are some gems among the unopened/new games.

Some of their better deals are for Nintendo games that usually don't get a price break. Super Mario Galaxy is $24.99 new and Super Smash Bros. Brawl is $33.99 new. Mario Party 8 is $27.99 new.

For PLAYSTATION 3 gamers, you may want to check out Metal Gear Solid 4 for $37.99 new or Socom Confrontation with the Sony Bluetooth Headset for $44.99. BioShock was also spotted for $19.99 on the PLAYSTATION 3.

See a picture of an in-store price listing here.

No, the Wii unfortunately can't run games in resolutions higher than 480p, a sad fact for audio/visual connoisseurs. But in this fantastical age of technological wizardry and workarounds, that doesn't mean we can't have a glimpse of what could have been.

Using the Wii PC emulator Dolphin, YouTube user renebarahona (via Kotaku) has uploaded a few videos showing some Wii games running in 720p, including Super Smash Bros. Brawl (above) and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (below). Naturally, be sure to click the HD button to get the full effect. Not bad, huh?
It was probably the biggest game launch the system has seen, with Nintendo sponsoring tournaments across the US to find the ultimate Super Smash Bros. Brawl champ. The tournament would conclude at a Best Buy in New York with Daniel Jung coming out as the winner.

For his win, Daniel went home with one rare Swarovski crystal coated Wii console. The one of a kind Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wii system is valued at about $4,000 by the designer, Crystal Icing. The saga of the Swarovski Crystal Wii continues as Daniel has put it up for auction on eBay, at a starting bid of $4,000. He's also throwing in a few bonus goods.
There were so many great games released that it's incredibly hard to decide which one deserves to be the Game of the Year… so that's why Ripten is going to make you do it. Have a gander at Ripten's nominees and let them know which game you think deserves top honors. Additionally, they want to spark some debate as they also want to know which of the nominees is least deserving of Game of the Year.

The best commenter (best arguments, most interesting or humorous comments - as decided by Ripten staff) will also be rewarded with a super awesome prize: a free game! Let your voice be heard!

The nominees are:

Left 4 Dead
Metal Gear Solid 4
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Grand Theft Auto IV
Fable II

The next first-party Wii game looks to be Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, a 2D Platform game which promises to bring an innovative Wii control system to the classic genre. Wario's latest adventure is scheduled for release on September 26, 2008.

Nintendo gives lame excuse for Brawl delay in Europe (News)

"Every time you go through localization you then have to put it through a test, which involves making sure that you recorded the proper voice, and that the proper voice is being activated with the proper trigger, at the proper time¿So it's not just a case of swapping over some words, it requires some proper extra development processes. And so it takes time. I realize that from time to time we have still been disappointing some people, but in general we have also been able to bring to them games which would have never been available before in a European market, and the time frame is slowly decreasing, so I'm positive for the future. We know that we are still not reaching the expectations of all the people, but we're really doing our best to resolve this." - Laurent Fischer, Nintendo of Europe

Knowing that Nintendo of Europe is not completely satisfied with the delay in game releases might give people some hope. Having to wait four months for such an anticipated game is definitely difficult. However, could localization really have delayed the game four months?
You can guess the first: Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released to the public on the stroke of midnight. The second, you might have missed if you were living under a rock. At midnight on that fateful day began GameStop’s nationwide Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament, which culminated in the Grand Championships in San Jose, California last Saturday.

Consumers might be seeing price cuts for Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 in the coming months, claimed analyst Jesse Divnich of research firm EEDAR in a report sent to Gamasutra following today's NPD sales figures for March.

Divnich pointed to the lower-than-expected sales of Xbox 360 and PS3 as evidence that the systems might be plateauing. "These hardware results would indicate that both systems have likely saturated their potential market at their current price points," he wrote. "If we do not see any price cuts in the coming weeks, we can likely expect some hardware cuts once GTA IV loses some steam (before July) or if the GTA IV release significantly drives hardware sales for one console over the other."
More than 720,000 Wii systems sold in March, representing the highest monthly sales total outside of holiday months (November or December) to date, while Nintendo DS also sold through nearly 700,000 systems.

Nintendo also finished with the top-selling U.S. game of March. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which launched March 9, came in at No. 1 with 2.7 million units sold.

PlayStation 3 outsold Xbox 360 for the third month in a row, but the Nintendo Wii overshot the combined sales of its rivals, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.

Ahead of March's NPD Group sales data, due to release this Thursday, Pachter forecast PS3 sales of 365,000 units, edging out sales of 310,000 for Xbox 360.

In a Monday investor note, Pachter predicted that Nintendo will come out on top for yet another month, with Wii sales of 700,000 during March's five-week retail period.

Nintendo of America have issued a press release detailing improvements to the Wii's online service:

"No one wants to play the same game forever. However, sometimes it is impractical, both for Nintendo and for our customers, to release a new sequel to all our games every year. In order to solve this problem, Nintendo will begin offering the Wii Want More service this May. By logging into the Wii Shop Channel players will be able to purchase new content for games they already own for a fraction of the price it would cost to buy a new game.

We are pleased to announce that one of 27 games to make use of the Wii Want More service at its launch will be none other than our very own best selling Super Smash Bros.® Brawl! Starting May 13, 2008, players will be able to add four undisclosed new characters and two new stages to the already large roster included in the stand-alone game for only 10.00 USD. Our customers will be even more pleased to discover that this particular package will be offered completely free of charge for the first month after the launch of Wii Want More. A better deal has never been offered by any company in the Video Game industry.

In addition to Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo will offer content for The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Metroid® Prime 3: Corruption, and Mario Kart® Wii, as well as several titles available through the Wii Ware service. Wii Want More will also allow our numerous third party developers to offer downloadable content for both previously released and upcoming games. This spring, be ready to ask for more!

Remember that Wii features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other Wii features, visit Wii.com."
You saw the two from San Diego. Here is the one from LA. I probably should have headed over to the CityWalk Midnight Store Opening, but I figured this was the official one mentioned on the Nintendo website, so maybe there would be some official representation. I should have known better. Personally, I thought it was a weak turn-out. Brawl, which was released today, have reported that they're experiencing the same errors when playing the game as were first reported when it was released in Japan. Nintendo of America has announced that those suffering from the problem, which is most likely due to a dirty lens inside the machine, will be able to send their consoles in to be cleaned, and has set up a web page detailing the specifics of the situation.

GameDaily BIZ reports that it has received the latest Japanese video game sales data from Famitsu Marketing Data Service covering the month of February (technically the period from Jan. 28 to Feb. 24), and while the overall market was down 7.7 percent year-over-year, largely because of a 24.6 percent drop in hardware sales, software sales did increase 8.1 percent.

Leading the charge was none other than Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which racked up sales of more than 1.3 million units in its first month and broke the million mark in its second week ¿ the fastest sales pace yet for a Wii game in Japan. The popular Wii Fit took second place with over 309K units sold, and the game now has over 1.5 million units sold since last December. Capcom's Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 took third place with a respectable 275K units sold. For comparison purposes DMC4 on Xbox 360 sold 51K units.

In terms of hardware total:

Wii: 331K units
DSL: 230K units
PSP: 223K units
PS3: 89K units
PS2: 38K units
360: 14K units
