Drew Crecente of Kotaku writes: When I first read the words "Q Awards" I auto-magically thought of the late, great actor Desmond Llewelyn but was apparently way off track. These are Gamefly's version of the Oscars sans the cheesy dance routines.
GameFly today (2008-02-25) announced the winners of their Fifth Annual Q Awards. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision) was selected by GameFly subscribers as "Game of the Year" and also won individual honors for "Xbox 360 Game of the Year" and "PlayStation 3 Game of the Year."
Core Gaming Group, Nintendo's representative company in South Africa, launched two popular Wii titles at a press event held this past Friday in Johannesburg. In addition, after roughly a year of the world's best selling handheld console being absent from the South African market, Core Group relaunched the Nintendo DS Lite.

A report today from Jesse Divnich at the simExchange says Nintendo has turned casual games and gamers into the primary forces driving the videogame industry. Using data from the holiday 2007 shopping season, the firm said that one factor in the industry's growth has been a larger-than-expected next-generation adoption rate among casual gamers. Game Industry reports, according to the data from Media-Control GfK, Nintendo ended 2007 on a high across mainland Europe, with DS titles topping the Spanish chart and Wii games heading the German list for software sales in the week ending December 30.
Nintendo platform titles dominate the end of year German and Spanish charts.
The critical popularity of flagship titles, mixed with continued fan attraction to established franchises and the introduction of valuable new IPs (intellectual properties), has also led to considerable commercial success. Software sales are on the rise to the tune of around $10.5 billion (through October) in the United States, while the UK gaming market has taken a total of around £1.52 billion during 2007.
