"In the not-too-distant past, some pretty convincing claims were made by an alleged former member of Sonic Team staff that the once-adored Sega studio is losing its will to live."

"Sonic Team veteran Tetsu Katano says it's not true that staff inside the studio are becoming disillusioned, and that fresh talent keeps things bright."
And enough gamers buy crappy Sonic games for Sega not to care, according to an anonymous Sega employee.

In North America and Europe Sonic Unleashed is exploding on every viable console on the market with a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 2 version that Japan isn't getting. Sega of Japan plans to release Sonic: World Adventure (renamed to better fit Sonic's journey around the Earth and downplay the Werehog thing?) only on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. The PlayStation 2 port will be completed before Sonic: World Adventure launches in Japan so this begs the question why is Sega passing on it? It's not like Sega Japan is abandoning the PlayStation 2 entirely. Thunderforce VI comes out on Thursday in Japan and unless Sega has anything secretly planned it will be the final PlayStation 2 game published by Sega in the region.
For a while we thought Sonic was a goner, a blue hedgehog-shaped smear on the tarmac of gaming history. With Sonic Teams every attempted step forward, his scores plummeted down. Multiple characters exploring 3D environments? Big the Cat? Sonic with guns? With Secret Rings, the team has finally realized that the only way forwards is backwards. At breakneck speeds.

Sonic and the Secret Rings will make full use of the wacky Wii controller, by making you gesticulate yourself into a frenzy if the hedgehog is going to win the day. You see, an evil genie has wrought mayhem in the storybook world of Arabian Nights, all because he wants those luscious Secret Rings, and it's down to you to stop him.
Monday 22 January 2007
A spiky bundle of new shots from Sega's Wii work in progress, Sonic and the Secret Rings, have hot footed it our way and show the intrepid hedgehog making a dash for some precariously placed red rings - could these be the eponymous treasures of the game's title? We think so.

Other images give us another look at the pointy-toothed Jurassic hazards that inhabit a jungle level of Sonic's adventure - it looks like the iconic ring collector uses a high-velocity burst to ...

Game will feature 10 levels, 5 of which are listed below

-Sand Oasis
-Dinosaur Jungle
-Evil Foundry
-Levitated Ruin
-Pirate Storm

Sonic now has customizable skills. It is said that there are somewhere around 100 skills that Sonic can learn. Skills range from how Sonic handles, to his moves, to special abilities. Sonic holds 4 rings that allow for 500 points worth (each) of skills. Experience points are earned through the main game.

One new move slows down time through a soul meter. This move is much like the speed up move we saw in various trailers, but with an opposite outcome.

40 multiplayer games

Each level has 10 missions such as stealth attack, rampage, chain challenge, beat the clock, and more.
This fresh batch of images from Wii-bound Sonic adventure, Sonic and the Secret Rings, gives us more views of the spiky one's towering dinosaur enemies, and hints at the sort of high-speed platforming we'll be racing through when the game's released next spring.

With a spiny T-Rex-like beast lunging over Sonic's path and a stampede of newly spotted Triceratops-ish dinos hurtling after him, we're guessing that Secret Rings will see us outrunning, dodging and hiding ...
It wouldn't normally be a fair fight: dinosaur versus hedgehog; scales, teeth, horns and armor-plated hides versus a few spines and the ability to roll into a ball. But this is Sega, and in the super-speedy Wii game Sonic and the Secret Rings, it is the primitive beasts that are about to be given a lesson from the old school. Hit the Images tab to check out the new screens.

Because as you can see in all of these primary colored shots, the blue fella has been freed from the tyranny of playing ...

One of the most exciting Nintendo Wii exclusives set to make an appearance on the console next year would have to be Sonic And The Secret Rings.

Sonic Team's Yojiro Ogawa recently sat down for an interview with French website Gamekult (via C3) and revealed that simplicity alone is set to play a major factor in Sonic's debut on the Wii. He stated rather controversially that he believed "deep gameplay and big adventures don't suit the Wii philosophy."

Ogawa then went on to reveal that Sonic's super charged adventure is set to span 70 missions, which the average gamer should be able to race through within ten hours. Intrepid players will have the option to accomplish bonus content and subsequently receive additional medals...
Sonic the Hedgehog's debut on Nintendo's Wii will now be called Sonic and Secret Rings rather than Wild Fire, which was the name that was used at this year's E3.

Sonic and the Secret Rings will be Sonic's first solo outing since the original Sonic the Hedgehog that was released for Mega Drive 15 years ago. It has the blue blur trying to piece together a Arabian Knights storybook by recreating the lost ...
It doesn't really matter how long you've been gaming - you know who Sonic the Hedgehog is. Ever since his first appearance on the Sega Genesis in 1991, the hyperactive hedgehog has consistently been one of the most popular characters in video game history. To honor his longevity, SEGA's trumpeting its new, next-gen Sonic the Hedgehog game, due later this year, as well as an enhanced remake of the original Genesis game, only for Game Boy Advance. The new version will incorporate Sonic's spin ...
If there's one thing we all left E3 wondering, it was: Where the hell are all the Wii screenshots? Very few publishers tossed out their own, official images with their Wii games, but Sonic Wild Fire has now been unleashed.
There's been an awful lot of commotion surrounding Sonic's upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 adventure game. It's attempting to bring the hedgehog back to his fast-paced roots, but after just one play-through of Wii's gorgeous, speedy Sonic Wild Fire, we're already bigger fans of its one-track, racing mind.

There's no adventure to be had here. Wild Fire plops Sonic on a branching, winding raceway that cuts around palm trees, collapsing pyramids and spike-filled traps. All you've got to do is use the ...
Tuesday 9 May 2006
Sega has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog will be going it alone for his Wii debut in 2007 in an adventure game using the working title Sonic Wild Fire.

Sonic hasn't appeared in a game purely by himself since he first appeared on Mega Drive back in 1991, but that isn't the only thing different about the new Wii adventure, as Sonic Wild Fire will make full use of the motion sensitive controller.
